No basketball activities until at least December, at which time he'll be re-evaluated. Obviously this will be a developing situation. For fantasy purposes, this is a bump for Luis Scola and in particular Markieff Morris. Jermaine O'Neal is the other big on the roster. 0% Agree (0 votes) |
wow, feeling bad for Channing. And now would Suns managmant do it the same letting Robin go to NO?

More details here: http://valleyofthesuns.com/2012/09/20/channing-frye-phoenix-suns-heart/
In the interim, we do know Phoenix has capable bodies to replace Frye’s 10.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and shooting stroke. Markieff Morris is a big key to replacing Frye on both ends of the floor. A summer in the weight room for defense and a consistency on Morris’ jumper could help the offense stretch the floor a la Frye. Obviously, Luis Scola’s role is now more important as well. And on the peripheral positions to Frye’s home at the 4, Jermaine O’Neal might become more of an option at center since there was talk from Alvin Gentry that Frye could spend time backing up Marcin Gortat this year. Michael Beasley could also play more at the 4 if the Suns want to go small.

Jermaine? If he play 30 games out of 82 that would be miracle (and yes, I do not count 2-5 minutes on the court with "game played").

Update via Twitter: Frye is definitely out for the 2012-13 season.

Now saying it's likely he's out for the entire season: http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/articles/20120920phoenix-suns-channing-frye-enlarged-heart.html?sf6189670=1

This doesn't affect Gortat good or bad. This means Markieff Morris and Scola (to a lesser extent) go up.

Sad news indeed, hopefully he makes a full recovery. On a brighter note, I did draft Scola, and Dudley in our BOSF draft. I'll be looking for Markieff in the late rounds, he had some good games in the summer league, I wonder if he'll be as good or better than say, Taj Gibson, or Brandon Bass.

Damn. Talk about good/bad news scenario. I just traded for a package of Frye (bad news) and Markieff (good news).
Now I feel very mediocre

Here is my channing frye story of the day...
Two years ago, he was on my team. in first rd of my H2H playoffs. last day (sunday) the other guy had all his games wrapped up and had around a 35 pt lead in the pts cat. I just needed to take him there, and would win the week and move on.
So final game of the night. Final game of the week. I had Dirk, Gortat and Frye playing. Just needing 35 points (or something like that). Dirk gets 20, gortat gets 14 (not accurate, but you get the picture) basically I just needed Frye to get 3 freakin points!
Watched the game live, sweating like a boxer at the end of the 12 round. Frye is throwing bricks all game, and fouling people left right and center. With about a minute to go, he is 0-12 or something in 18 foul filled minutes. I JUST NEEDED THREE POINTS FROM THE GUY!
Anyhow, Suns are down three, with 20 seconds to go. Frye gets back on the court for his shooting.... and TAKES THE GAME TIEING SHOT! HERE WE GO BABY! I am off to the second round! He was just toying with me! Now he was going to deliver! And of course...
He air balls.
My season ended right there.
Good luck on your health channing Frye...but you shall NEVER touch one of my fantasy teams every again!

In the ADP mock draft ranking posted, as of 9/14/2012, Scola was ranked at 111th and Beasley 108th which are essentially 9th and 10th round picks in a 12-team league.
Due to the absence of Channing Frye, where would you rank the two players now in a mock draft? Do there draft positions go up about 3 to 5 spots?
Thanks.

Morris is really the only player that this news affects at a significant level. Scola and Beasley are still looking at similar minutes, although Beasley could spend a bit more time at PF due to the injury. That would mean Dudley getting some run at SF, with Shannon Brown and Wes Johnson benefitting. Sure, this gives Scola/Beasley more minutes security in general, but we're not doing much to draft sheets other than adding Morris to the late rounds and removing Frye entirely.

I gotta think Scola is in line for a few extra minutes, possibly shifting over to C whehn Morris comes in at PF. O'neal is really just a decoy at this stage of his career, so the Suns have a much better shot at winning games if they can lean a bit heavier on their prized offseason acquisition. I think he'll easily be a top 100 player this year, so I'd bump him up a bit.

Cap - if they are going to play a PF out of position at centre it won't be scola it will actually be Morris. Scola is 6'9 and not a defensive rim protector he block or changes no shots, Morris is bigger and at 6"10 has legit centre size with a longer reach, more importantly though he blocks and changes shots.
This might be what Buser is getting at cos I think it means rather than backup just PF Morris also backs up centre now, and let's face it Morris is the young developing guy who needs minutes on a team that won't make the playoff regardless who they play.
He was very good in summer league and is one of those rare players let alone centers that can get anywhere near the 1/1/1 in steals blocks 3s.

My point was that instead of a 4 man rotation, it's now a 3 man rotation, so no matter who plays C or PF, Scola is going to get more minutes and therefore more stats.

Cap I understand that but Beasley was never in te mix for minutes at the 4, at least initially, he was the starting 3. Now he's going to get minutes at the 4. So your basically taking out frye and putting in Beasley with the minutes skewed to give more time to Morris now. He will still have minutes at the 3 of course but now some at the 4.
You still have the same amount of people in the rotation for the 4/5 with the now likely inclusion of Beasley. That's why Buser was saying Dudley could see the bump as it opens up time for Him to move from 2 to the 3 whilst beasleysometimes plays PF?

I'm not even sure if there's a debate about it, Scola is going to get more minutes now than he was going to 3 days ago no question about it. Whether Morris plays C or Beasley slides over to PF, there's one less significant player eating up 25-30 minutes a game, and those minutes are going to be divvied up between the team's best players, particularly at Frye's position. It's a sad thing no doubt, but you can't say it doesn't affect Scola's value positively at all.

I'm not saying it doesn't affect his value at all but I don't think it affects it much, certainly not enough to move home out of the round he's being drafted in. Frye is primarily backup centre a position scola has and will have nothing to do with. The backup PF didn't go down. I don't think frye was ever pencilled in to ply 30 minutes anyway either.
Anyway, difference of opinion. ??
