I can't say I see much change for Pau, positive or negative. Take a look at the Lakers' current remaining projections and tell me what you see as high/low. I set them up assuming Phil (or whoever) basically just lets Nash-Kobe-Pau-Howard go out there and play. Everyone else feel free to chime in, as well cookie monster

i was mostly curious because i think BBM dropped pau around 8 spots from opening day which seemed reasonable the way the lakers were going

truth is maybe it is pointless to speculate until the coach is picked and a few games are played

Honestly with real games being played projections are more a guidline than hard facts. Predicting a trend is very hard especially with no coach or Nash.

I think Pau projections have been fine.  His usage has been so low this year and that will def. rise the rest of the season.  It's hard to score when you never have the ball.  Right now his projections have been a little under, but his USG% for the year has been lower than Jordan Hill.

Looks like they are going to rest him until his knees are no longer a problem.

D'Antoni said Gasol made the decision to rest after consulting with the coaching and training staff. There is no set timetable for how long Gasol will sit out. Antawn Jamison will start in his place. "We got to get him healthy," D'Antoni said. "Whatever it takes -- one game, two games, 10 games -- I don't know. It's day to day but he's got to be healthy. It wasn't fair (to him). He's trying to battle through some stuff and in this league, you just can't do that."

I'd say so. The least likely scenario here would be his staying in LA and being a miserable failure. More likely are his getting healthy and putting up some numbers once Nash is back in the mix, or being traded and doing just fine as a top option for someone else.

Source: Ignore any and all trade talk about Pau Gasol because the Lakers landed Steve Nash by promising

him he would get to play with Gasol. Nash made it a prerequisite for passing on offers from Toronto and the Knicks that Pau would be around, the source said. Such prerequisites from an incoming star aren't that unusual -- Chris Paul made similar personnel demands as part of his agreement to be dealt to the Clippers. (In Paul's case, he wanted assurance that LAC would do whatever was necessary to retain restricted FA DeAndre Jordan.) Conceivably, once Nash gets back and actually plays with Gasol, the Lakers could continue to struggle and Nash re-thinks his position. But as of right now, one of the enticements that brought Nash to LA was the big Spaniard and the organization would have much bigger problems than they already have if they backtracked on their promise to keep Gasol in the fold.

That notion is temporary. Once they convince Nash that its time to move past Pau in this system (& a little chat w/Kobe) the transition will happen. Promises in the NBA are rarely if ever maintained.

That's a Ric Bucher report.  If you believe that, then maybe you believed a few years back that "Kobe Bryant will never wear a Lakers uniform ever again."  Because that was also reported by Ric Bucher.

There is no chance that the Lakers would agree to something like that with Steve Nash and actually follow through with it.  The ONLY player that has that kind of power in LA is Kobe.  Definitely not a first year player with the team.

I'm not saying Pau will or will not get traded, but I am saying that Nash doesn't have that kind of pull in LA.   I am also saying that I don't believe anything Ric Bucher reports that he was "told by a Source."

Pau Gasol struggled against the Clippers on Friday, scoring just two points on 1-of-6 shooting with four rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in 27 minutes.
Gasol was benched down the stretch and Mike D'Antoni said he wasn't injured, but the talk of Twitter, the TV circuit and even Kobe Bryant was how he is being misused in the offense. Specifically, he should be playing down low and he's not, and when you factor in a normal amount of decline for a player of his age and mileage the results can sometimes look like this. D'Antoni seems to be sticking to his guns here, but something has to give or L.A. is going to explode.

D'Antoni already talked to Pau Gasol about the switch to the bench. About that, D'Antoni said: "That's life. He understands." D'Antoni also said: "It also puts Pau in his natural position. He's one of the best centers in the league." Gasol will get some post touches off the bench, and the Lakers hope Clark changes them with athleticism. D'Antoni said it gives them "a little more bounce to our step."

I'm not sure how to react to this before we see the minutes distribution for at least one game. This is the only move that D'Antoni has left. He's now literally out of ideas.

This is almost certainly a predecessor to a Gasol trade, maybe in the next two weeks if things continue the way they are.  Gasol's comments before the game say it all.  If the Lakers like Earl Clark so much, then why don't they trade for Millsap or something.

Knee-jerk reaction for minutes breakdown: Howard 35, Clark 30, Gasol 26. Gasol not off to a good start thus far. I can't help but wonder how many logical trades exist for Gasol at $18M? Trade Machine

It would have to be a contender, desperate for a C, with a lot of cap space to offer.  Celtics come to mind, not sure for who though.  Memphis would be perfect, for Gay, if only...  I can't imagine the Raptors still have interest.  Denver seems like a good fit, but they'd likely have to give up Iguodala or Galinari.

It's difficult to find a realistic match... Who wants to pay Gasol $19.3M next season?

Trade market for Pau Gasol complicated because Lakers have made clear that they don't want back long-term money in deal, league sources say.

The fact that Gasol would tell Sager it's "certainly looking like a possibility" that he'll be traded tells you where his mind is at.

Remember when Team USA was double-teaming Earl Clark in the 2012 Gold Medal game and still couldn't stop him? Oh wait that was Pau Gasol.

@Cap: Celtics have no cap space, and Memphis are trying to cut salary- not add to it.

The Lakers are acting like they get to call the shots here, but really their options are pretty limited. They want to move a guy making almost 20M next year, and not take on long-term money, and they have no picks to throw in as sweeteners. Oh, and they want multiple valuable pieces back.

For ha-ha's I had a play with the trade machine, and the following work cap wise.

LAL-ATL: Pau straight up for Josh Smith and Morrow. I kinda like this for ATL. Pau takes his natural place and Horford slides over to PF. Not sure how hot Ferry still is for the possibility of swipping Dwight in the offseason though, although Smiths cap hold apparently makes that pretty diffcult anyway. I also like this trade as someone who loves to see the Lakers with egg on their face- Smith playing as the "floor spacing" PF.

LAL-MIN: Pau straight up for Kirilenko, Ridnour and Budinger. I could see khan doing this. It would mean LAL will have to pay 13M to AK and Riddnour next year, but just in terms of tallent they're getting back, they'd have to look at it right.

LAL-DAL-BOS: LAL gets Marion, Bass, Barbossa. DAL gets Pau. Bos gets Kaman. Hmm...why the hell would I want Kaman? I'm saving that Bass chip to snag Millsap.

LAL_MIL: Pau for Illysova, Dalembert and Dunleavy. If Ersan hadn't sucked all year...maybe.

LAL-TOR-UTA: LAL gets Millsap and Fields, Tor gets Pau, Uta gets Calderon. Ok, so I just like the idea of LA getting that Fields contract. Note that Pau for Calderon/Bargiani works too, but see Illysova, Ersan.

LAL-WAS: Pau for Nene and Ariza. Can't see LAL taking on that kind of money.

And this one I kinda like: LAL-MIN-NO: Min gets Pau, NO gets Pek and Williams, LAL gets Ryan Anderson, Ridnour, and Brandon Roy's insuarance money. Actually, that seems like a lot to give for Pau, but it's the only way Min is going to get quality.

Pau Gasol has a partial tear of his plantar fascia and is expected to be out at least six weeks, league source tells .

One option for Gasol is rehab, with estimated timetable of 6-8 weeks. Surgery would mean 10-12 weeks, with better chance of full recovery.

Gasol, who had an MRI in Boston today after injuring foot in Brooklyn last night, is expected to get a second opinion in the coming days.

Maybe? Completely a one-off depending on settings, team needs, who you'd be dropping, who else is available, etc. But in general I don't have massive expectations, he's coming off a long layoff and the Lakers are 2-4-3 in the default playoffs.

Drop Gordon Hayward, Jeff Green, Jason Thompson or Kevin Love for Gasol?

My playoffs begin after this week ends, and I'm currently in first.

Thinking of not picking Pau up at all, let me know what you think. I'm conflicted because Earl Clark is sucking and Pau will be welcomed back. Jeff Green hasn't been so hot and I'm nervous about what K-Love will be able to manage in 3 weeks.

KingKobe: I'd expect AK to be a better stash than Pau: he should be returning sooner, to a larger role, and with a better schedule.

andysdevries: The "not picking him up at all" option isn't a bad one, but Thompson/Hayward/Green aren't must-holds, either. I'll just reiterate that I don't have great expectations for Gasol, particularly in his initial games.

Pau Gasol will return to the starting lineup next week in place of struggling Earl Clark, unless conditioning reasons force him to come off the bench for a game or two, an unlikely event. Lakers Coach Mike D'Antoni doesn't want to repeat the distractions caused by Gasol's demotion to reserve status, according to a person familiar with the situation.

I've got this guy in my league that is picking up injured players prematurely (e.g. Mo Williams) even if they are going to hurt you in production during the playoffs.  Mo Williams will kill you in turnovers and fg% and only helps me in areas that I am already strong at so I stayed away, but I won't have the chance now to pick him up in the future.

He also just picked up Pau Gasol today even though the Lakers are only playing 2 games next week and pau's role is still diminished by Dwight Howard.  Kind of annoys because I won't even have the chance to pick him after the end of next week when the lakers start playing more games.

Just messes up any opportunities I had at taking advantage of timing.

Oh well, hope he loses in the first round for hording all these injured players that are just starting to play.

No such thing as picking up an injured guy prematurely. maybe the guy really needs Pau in his opinion. Maybe he cut somebody good for u to grab. I play WW chicken all the time. Always checking the league to see if Maynor has been picked up before I break and grab him. My number 1 rule is never let a crip drag u into the loser bracket.

For my situation, it wasn't the time to pick up either pau and mo williams.  I might've taken a chance on them during the regular fantasy season, but when every week in the playoff counts, i would rather rely on players i know will play a lot of games and will produce effectively.

And it still isn't, so good luck to the manager that's fielding mo williams and pau gasol on week 1 of the playoffs.

Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni said it's possible Gasol will play Sunday against Sacramento, but more likely Monday when the Lakers travel to Phoenix. D'Antoni also suggested he will use Gasol differently whenever he fully heals from a torn plantar fascia in his right foot, an injury that has sidelined him for 18 games. "He's going to be a starter at some point and is going to be a big part of what we do," D'Antoni said. "Whether it's the first day, fifth day or 10th day, I don't know. It depends on his conditioning."

is Pau close or isn't he?

Pau Gasol (foot) will not play on Sunday or Monday, and he'll have another ultrasound on Tuesday.

Gasol had a setback after playing 2-on-2 during Friday's practice, and we're unlikely to know more until Tuesday's results are disclosed. This leaves him with a maximum of one game in Week 21 -- the Lakers' two-game schedule is going to ruin plenty of owners in head-to-head playoff matchups.

If you have committed to holding an injured player for the expected returns for a fantasy playoff run (assuming you did your homework on the schedules etc), this isn't definitive enough for you to drop him.  I stayed away though from players whose serious injuries have them returning right before the fantasy playoffs.  Been burned one time too many by injured stars who I held only to suck during the playoffs (fantasy).
