I have long been preaching the prophecy of Derrick Favors. Today is a monumental step in its unfolding, with news breaking that Favors has claimed a starting spot in Utah. If you are a Favors-ite like myself, we are rejoicing.

I'll admit that I was wrong in thinking that Favors would begin the season as starter and push for 30 mpg right off the bat. But the prophecy only stipulates that three things will happen, in no particular order:

  • Favors Claims a Starting Spot
  • Favors Begins to Play 30+mpg
  • Millsap is traded

So a third of the holy trinity has come to fruition, and those with spiritual knowledge of the prophecy can see the gears have been set in motion. He may not play 30+mpg tonight when the Jazz face the Wizards, but he will soon. Once he gets his sea legs at the starting spot, his play will command the minutes.

There has to be a paradigm shift in Utah for Favors to truly take over, and it's going to begin with Favors redefining people's preconceptions about him. When he shows sustained elite defensive production and more importantly the ability to score, over time Favors will become the brightest star in Utah and no one will fight it. It will be a natural shift that makes sense to people, we might not even think of it as a paradigm shift by then. But that's the beauty of this prophecy.

And I believe without question that Millsap is being traded. Call it a conspiracy theory, but a prophecist would say the insertion of Favors into the starting lineup was the first step in Utah's preparation to deal one of their assets, with Millsap being the most often named candidate. Whether it's by the trade deadline or earlier, Millsap will finish the season on another team and it will be because Favors' play as a starter allowed Utah to trade Millsap instead of lose him to restricted free agency this offseason.

It's gonna happen. Right now is the rise. But soon the reign is coming. Get on board now because he will be a harsh ruler.

Hah, you and everyone else was wrong about his starting over Millsap immediately. Favors was incredibly hyped this preseason, but perhaps it was not so premature after all. Millsap is the obvious trade candidate, no doubt - this seems like it could be "the" effort to give his playing SF a try. If it works, it sticks; if it doesn't, he's on the market. But who is the wing player that makes the most sense for him to be trade for?

I'll give it a shot. Millsap for Tyreke Evans (and salary filler). http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=bzhuvx2

Utah's starters: Williams-Tyreke-Hayward-Favors-Jefferson

Sacramento's starters: Thomas-Thorton-Johnson-Millsap-Cousins

Utah gets a talented young wing player who has a chance for a fresh start. Sacramento gets a hardworking veteran who can play in the front court with Cousins and hopefully show him how to be a professional.

Utah's a smart team, so I don't seem them taking on Evans.

How about Millsap to Hou for some combination of Parsons/Jones/Montejunas/Picks. Could see that working for both sides.

Granger might have also worked as a short-term fill if he wasn't injured.

Hey, Phil, nice to see you! Evans is interesting because you figure they'll get a discount and that lineup is a pretty good fit for his skills - the last thing they'd need from him is a jumpshot. But Outlaw as filler might kill the deal.

HOU is under the cap, so they could make something happen (Chandler/Jones) while taking on Millsap's salary.

There won't exactly be a glut of wings to pursue in free agency, either. O.J. Mayo may be the top option when it comes to UFAs.
