I'm thinking of taking kyrie as my first round(pick 5) pick in one of my drafts cuz I think his upside is tremendous but i just noticed that he's been injured in his one year in college, then injured last year in his rookie season, then got injured again during the team USA select training over the summer. Would you say he's injury prone like curry or an injury risk like Lowry or it was just really bad luck and this year he should be done and play close to a whole season? What do you guys think? 0% Agree (0 votes) |

We're all hoping it's just random flukes, but he does have a history of injury. I don't think anyone here can honestly tell you right now that they know he's not injury prone. The good thing is though that the injuries haven't been related.
Guess we just need more time to see if he has all that behind him or if something comes up again. Draft him without thinking about it though, he's nothing close to Curry and his glass ankles

he just got 4 wisdom teeth pulled today. If he gets a complication, I'd label him injury prone (or just plain dumb). Why punch the wall, and why pull teeth a week prior to the season?

Dion Waiters and Daniel Gibson will be up in the 30s for minutes. Jeremy Pargo can get deep-league consideration with ~25 mpg. Donald Sloan gets a look if your league rosters everyone playing any minutes.

Bad percentages and a few assists. Singler will play all year, Pargo will only play for a month. And Pargo only moved ahead of Sloan on the depth chart recently, so he's got no guarantees of playing time, anyway.

Worth dropping Brand for Gibson? I put his projected minutes to 32 and it ranks him 92nd (8-cat) if they're accurate. I'm a Kyrie owner although I do have Vasquez as cover.

My thinking is that Pargo starts but that the backcourt minutes go Waiters - Gibson - Pargo -- Sloan. And don't hold your breath, but C.J. Miles could be back in the mix at SG, as well.

I made the first trade of my fantasy career, aquiring Kyrie for Westbrook, last week. As soon as the trade was done, Westbrook goes crazy vs. Golden State, and Kyrie breaks a finger vs. Dallas. I knew the risks, but still, the timing is crazy!
I also own Kyle Lowry (and Kevin Love, but that one was a draft day decision, knowing the injury).

Irving is probably a couple weeks away from returning to the practice floor in contact drills. He's been practicing lately, but when they have contact, he sits out. "I know he's anxious," Scott said. "We're not going to take any chances. We'll leave it up to the doctors. He has to get at least one practice in. The chance of him coming back early, I don't know." Doctors estimated he'd miss four weeks. He's been out since Nov. 17.

For those comtemplating whether to put him into your lineups - Kyrie Irving is set to play against the Nuggets today (Friday, Jan. 11, 2013)

Coach Byron Scott downplayed the severity of Kyrie Irving's knee injury Friday.
Irving caught the illness that's going through the Cavs and is doubtful for Friday night's game, but this quote should warm owner's hearts: "I don't really think the knee is that big of an issue," Scott said. "[Our trainer] said he's doing pretty good." Irving has been complaining of some pain, but was very staunch in his stance that he won't shut it down. Since the Cavs are fine with that, we have to take him at his word for now.

LOVE Kyrie's real-life game (he has rapidly become one of my very favorite players in the league), but this news only makes me feel better about pulling the trigger on a straight-up deal of Irving-for-Westbrook about a month ago.
I hope he shakes this injury bug over the course of his career, but if they end up shutting him down for the ENTIRE remainder of the season, this should be yet another warning to fantasy owners... A slight deterrent against drafting players who are among the best players on an otherwise-crappy team (and almost the same thing holds for the very best players on the super-elite teams like Lebron on MIA, Duncan on SAS, etc.)-- just when you may need them most, for your fantasy playoff run, you'll find that their real-life team actually has every incentive to hold them OUT of games that they could actually reasonably play at the end of the season. (See also: Kevin Love down the stretch of the last few seasons [and maybe THIS season])
Damn shame.

If he can come back and there's no likelihood of doing further damage I see no reason why he wouldn't- general pesimessim aside.

I don't think anyone should be surprised that this was a substantial injury. Valanciunas at 260 lbs hip-checked him directly on the shoulder: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUS4nFXbQlw
30% is a reasonable estimate for his playing again. 30-50% is where I'd have it. More questionable that he does than doubtful but by not means probable.

30%-50% seems like good odds to gamble for a first rounder, Im trying a super low ball offer, trying to convince the owner that the CAVS are going for Ping Pong Balls and Kyries done for the season and this guy Im offering is better then anyone on the wire. This is Roto so i think I can wait, doubt the logic applies for H2H though

Own him in a 14 team league, and had to drop him...FA list is fairly thin, but it is what it is. I sit in 6th place, so it's not as if I have a playoff seed locked up by any means. Without him, I doubt I have a chance of making noise in the playoffs. But, I can't afford to keep him which increases the risk that I don't make them all together. My thought process is that by getting the playoffs, anything can happen ( even if winning without him is a long shot).
As far as drafting him again goes, he may be on my don't draft list until further notice. This was a league I joined last minute, and took a strategy of targeting players that I did not own in other leagues just to kinda have some fun with it. I avoided Kyrie in my money leagues because I didn't trust him to stay healthy.

I picked him 6th overall this year and while I'm not sure I would do that again next year, I'd have a hard time turning my back on him around #12. I definitely have an affinity for point guards that shoot over 45%
Anyway, I've got the #1 playoff seed locked up and 1st round playoff matchup next week should be easy enough. I just dropped Kyrie and stashed Parker. But it still stung.

I'm still holding in a tight roto league where I've a chance at a podium finish- although this certainly increases the degree of difficulty. Have floated offers but found nobody who thinks he's coming back. I figure a 50-50 chance of 10 games is still more valuable than Ridnour or Barea. So I'm holding untill there is a definte reason not to.

I'm holding him in a keeper league, obviously. Gonna be hard to make much out of the upcoming playoffs, though.
Had him in one other league but dumped him, it's a h2h league but without playoffs, so there was really no incentive whatsoever to hold him.

I finished in first, but I am not sure how I would do without Kyrie.
Best waiver wire players:
Brandon Knight, DeAndre Jordan, Gerald Wallace, Tony Allen, Prince, Moe Harkless, JV, McRoberts, Drummond, Taj Gibson, Wayne Ellington,

if those are your best options, might as well hold

I would go ahead and scout your opponent for next week and see how it looks... A few good options on the wire, so I don't think you are in dire straits for a few more days.

This guy is winning his matchup and I would play him next week if all goes to plan, do you think I can win without Kyrie and Lawson is questionable.

This can help you get a good look at things: http://basketballmonster.com/HeadToHeadW.aspx
Harkless could probably be rostered.

I just dropped afflalo for harkless since he's out for the season, really thinking about dropping Irving for Brandon knight since he was playing better with Calderon. Anyone's thoughts? 100% Agree (1 vote) |

Kyrie Irving (shoulder) has been working harder in practice and his return should come "sooner rather than later," according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
It makes sense since Monday will be three weeks since the injury and it is to his non-shooting shoulder. He reportedly wasn't favoring his left shoulder, so Sunday's game isn't an overly optimistic target date

I am up in both my leagues this week, both in the semi finals, fingerts crossed :D I took the risk and picked up Irving in both leagues, he can almost gaurantee me the Championship

Reports are saying he might play tonight 0% Agree (0 votes) |
Yup, here's the latest:
http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nba/1820/kyrie-irving
"There's a "slight chance" that Kyrie Irving could play against the Hornets on Sunday, according to the News-Herald."
Unless you need everyone of your roster slots with active players today or you don't have any transactions you can afford to use on a player who might not play, I think now is the time to grab Kyrie before somebody else does. With this latest news, if he's not playing today, he's likely to suit up tomorrow, and if not, the likely latest date would be this Wednesday.
Go grab him now before he's gone. I just did.
