Projections are really low but played 36 minutes last night. Should get more as the season goes on. I don't know a lot about him but seems like he's athletic and has a good shot, and the Raps drafted him pretty high. Potential? 100% Agree (2 votes) |

I was going to start a thread on Ross today but you beat me to the punch. Ive seen every game hes played in, and I can tell you this, he is as athletic as they come, dont be surprised to see him win the dunk contest this year. You are also absolutely right, the more the Raptors lose, and the less chance they have to make the playoffs, the more minutes Ross will play. In fact, even when this team is fully healthy and in the playoff hunt, I think he deserves the most minutes at SF. So far Dwayne Casey has started Landry Fields and Dominic Mcguire at the position, and theyve gotten nothing from them, so I think Ross cracks the starting lineup sooner than later. Now is the time to pick him up and stash him on your bench because he is about to blow up. Did anyone else see his 3 monster dunks last night? Let me be the first to call him T-Rex. 100% Agree (1 vote) |
Being from Seattle, I've watched a lot of Terrence Ross while he played at the University of Washington. He's a prolific scorer with a good range, better than DeRozan, but he's never been known to be a defensive player, so if you're looking for steals right now, I don't know if he's your guy. I haven't seen much of him with the Raptors other than the highlights last night, but he looked pretty good and he's got a lot of talent. However, the Seattle media use to criticize him for not taking over games down the stretch. Tended to disappear and settle for the 3-point at crunch time.

He's 6'7 and just under 200 lbs, do you really want him having to defend starting SFs on a nightly basis?

Depends who the starting SF is. There are plenty of guys who aren't much bigger than him: Turner (205), Klay (205), Iggy (207), Batum (210), and sure, he's going to get bumped around a lot as most 21 year old rookies do, but his defense isn't that bad, his per-36 #s in Washington last year were 7.4 REB, 1.5 STL, and 1.0 BLK. Every rookie is going to have matchup problems, and you coach accordingly, but honestly, the Raptors are probably getting the least out of their 3 spot in the entire league so far, so you can't get any worse. It's shaping up to be another rebuilding year already, so you might as well get him into the game and start to develop chemistry with the other guys, no?

Well, there's got to be a balance there, right? Chemistry is one thing, but you don't want to sacrifice his confidence if he's regularly getting steamrolled. If you guys are in the tank, anyway, I don't see the harm in saving him from being out there at the tip, but get him the regular run off the bench. You are right that they've been getting nothing from SF, but Kleiza seems like he should be the "set it and forget it" starter while Fields is out.

I don't mind Kleiza starting and Ross coming off the bench, but I think Ross is the de facto starter of the future, and he looks ready from what I've seen, so I expect him to at least play meaningful minutes going forward. One thing is certain, Fields and McGuire should be nailed to the bench. That said, as defensive-minded as Casey is, it's hard to imagine him throwing Derozan, Kleiza, and Bargnani out there at the same time.

I have an open slot in my team (12*13 roto) - should I pick him up?
I am not familiar with him, but the upside sounds great - where do you see his numbers settle if he gets starter's minutes?

Depends who the other options are? He's certainly better than an 'open slot'.

Cap., hilarious...but true!
Ben Gordon, Chalmers, J. Crawford and for a short time - Mr. Barbosa....(assuming no Rondo for a while...)

First of all I wouldn't waste your time with Gordon, Chalmers, or Barbosa. Between Ross and Jordan Crawford, it's a toss up really. In his last 7 games Crawford has averaged 15.4 PTS, 3.9 AST, 3.0 REB, and 1.0 THR, so he's useful, but on the other hand, he's only cracked 30 minutes 3 times this year. Ross' short term potential might be slightly below that, but he's starting to see more minutes going forward. Personally, I like to roll the dice, so I'd go with Ross right now.

Thoughts on Terrence Ross moving forward? Looks like he has the potential to beat out Fields and Anderson as the starting PG in Toronto. 0% Agree (0 votes) |
Sorry. It's starting SG in Toronto. 0% Agree (0 votes) |

DeRozan is the starting SG and it's a whole gaggle of players at SF. He's better served coming off the bench as a rookie, anyway. Like his long-term potential, but not going to be in a position to make much noise this season, at least not consistently.

Big game for Ross tonight:

So who gets benched in Toronto to give him more minutes?

Having won 8 of their last 9, with the next 5 at home, I wouldn't expect anything to change much, until Bargnani gets back and poops on the party.

Ross has gotten 20+ min in last 4 games (I think) so you expect that to continue Cap? Don't u love this guy?

Didn't read this thread until just now (tonight), but the last few days, I've gone through and scooped Ross up in half the leagues I'm in, both h2h and roto. Just something in my gut says this is the beginning of a breakout stretch (famous last words ).
Whether it's a couple of games breakout, or a month-long one, or whatever, remains to be seen. But it just goes to show you the quality of scrubs I have sitting on my benches, that I'd consider rolling the dice on this kid. And in most of those leagues, I'm actually doing pretty good (although I'm struggling with one roto league at the moment), so I can afford to take the chance here or there.
I'd pick him up if you have a guy at the end of your bench you're not married to or doesn't have much to offer. If he blows up, makes you look like a fantasy basketball genius...if he doesn't, just swap him out for the next flavor of the day/week/month...
