Hoping for a December return, but will not rush it [link]
Would not be a shock to not see him until after the first of the year 0% Agree (0 votes) |
man, really puts a damper on his outlook knowing that he may not be back to normal until January. How do you approach him in drafts?
0% Agree (0 votes) |
My approach to Rubio in drafts is to pretty much let others take him.
I always read the December estimate as really meaning late December, so basically January to begin with, and obviously any setback or actual decison to "not rush it" cold push that back further.
Also, don't just expect him to show back up and be "back to normal" when he does start playing. This is not what often happens with major injuries (See Randolph, Lopez last year). When he does come back, he'll be brought along slowly and won't be full force till sometime at least several weeks later than when he first starts playing games, if at all this year.

Ricky Rubio has started to do some light five-on-none work in practice for the Minnesota Timberwolves, another encouraging sign in his long rehabilitation from a torn ACL in his left knee.
Coach Rick Adelman says there is still no definitive timetable for the point guard's return. He says he'll have a better idea once Rubio starts to participate in some contact work in practice. Both Rubio and All-Star Kevin Love were on the court for instructional portions of practice on Sunday. Love has been out all season with a broken right hand and is expected to return in early December.
Adelman says Rubio hasn't missed a beat mentally from all the time off. The best estimates for Rubio's first game action remain sometime in the middle of next month.

i am glad to hear that rubio's torn acl hasn't caused him to miss a beat "mentally" lol -- one would like to think that the nba paycheck would keep his interest

mid December is getting close.

He will not be in full game/playing shape untill end of dec, start of january, I would pick him at end of this month, maybe first days of december but everyone has own guess/timing when they think is best time for picking up some inj.player waiting to return.

Depends on ur standing in the league. It also depends on the worst player on ur roster. Rubio will prolly take some time to actually benefit ur team so add a week or 2 to his projected return. If u can pick up Rubio now and not fall behind then u can pick him up now. If u are 6 out of 12 teams then u can't let Rubio push u to Loserbracketville.

thanks for the replies.
I am doing okay in my league but mainly need another PG.
I have steph curry as my primary and have only Hinrich as second option.
H2h leage plays 1 PG 1SG 1G.
There are not many options for PGs on the wire: nate rob, bledsoe, beno, bayless, barea. I like bledsoe but the minutes jsut dont appear to be there.
i offered every trade i could think of to get a PG off someone, and no one is biting. Not many trades in this league.
I just dropped hinrich for Hendo, on news he might be back in the next coming week.
My options for Rubio would be droppping Hendo or Seraphin. Maybe ill try and wait another week or two and see if he is still available.

I think Nate is a solid pickup - he's up for big minutes with an ailing Hinrich.

The Rubio add is a no-brainer given your needs. He's at least a few weeks out but it's a much longer season than that.

Looks like it's time to stash Ricky. Latest update (from Rotoworld):
Ricky Rubio will see a doctor next week and coach Rick Adelman is expecting him back on the team's road trip.
The Wolves are on the road until November 28th and this is a good sign for the second-year point guard. While he hasn't exactly figured out how to score, Rubio should provide plenty of steals and assists for fantasy owners. Now would probably to make sure nobody else is stashing him. Nov 23 - 9:23 PM

Ricky Rubio's knee surgeon Wednesday cleared him to participate with no limitations in contact practices, a decision that could have the precocious point guard back playing games by the second week of December. Adelman was careful not to put a timeline on when Rubio might play his first game. But he did mention a schedule that gives Rubio three practice days next week and three or four the week after. That would put a return right around a Dec. 12 game against Denver at Target Center.

So push that return date about a week further out.

I haven't seen any definitive news, but personally, I'd wait until he actually plays before starting him. He doesn't produce superstar numbers so there's not a great upside taking the risk.

I'd advised a buy low on Pekovic weeks ago for this reason. I wouldn't advise trading for AK because of the expected price, and Shved is owned in 20% of Yahoo! leagues so I'm not sure what the trade market would be exactly.

“It’s hard because I still have a little pain and it’s something you have to fight through and get through,” said the 22-year-old Spaniard before the Minnesota Timberwolves lost 113-98 to the Dallas Mavericks, a fourth consecutive defeat for Minnesota and yet another game that Rubio would come off the bench and be limited by a minutes restriction. “It’s hard because you work hard for eight or nine months to get back and it doesn’t stop here,” Rubio said. “You have to work even harder now to get back in shape, to get back to the point you want to be feeling the game again, and that doesn’t come easy.”

We've slowed projections for him ramping up to full speed - don't anticipate him playing real starter's minutes before the All-Star break.

I've been stashing Rubio all year with the idea that i'd trade him once he started getting starter minutes. I never really planned to play him. He was my 13th and final pick in my Yahoo draft and I figured that, at some point, I'd be able to trade him for a vastly more helpful player. In retrospect, I should have followed mbuser's advice and tried to deal Rubio around the time he returned, when the hype was peaking and the reality of a slow comeback hadn't hit yet. Since I didn't do that, I'm wondering what kind of value I should expect to get out of Rubio if I trade him now? I need a rebounder/shot blocker, so who should I target as a potential target? I'm kind of at a loss because I frankly don't think Rubio offers much besides hype at this point. If I owned Hibbert and someone offered me Rubio in exchange, I'd feel insulted, but maybe that's my own bias. Maybe I could aim higher. Anyway, has anyone out there successfully traded Rubio for a high value player?

Im in the same boat as you rickademus! I actually dont mind keeping Rubio but im looking to deal him for a big man also. I am aiming a bit higher then I should though, trying for KG. I know the owner is a big fan of Rubio so I will target those GM's first.

It's still Rubio and there are still almost three months of basketball remaining, so I wouldn't be worried about offending anyone with a trade offer for a mid-round big. Rubio is starting now, so there's still room for "general" optimism.

Ricky Rubio injured his left shoulder in the third-quarter of Saturday's game after he collided with Pistons guard Brandon Knight. He had his shoulder wrapped with an ice bag after the game. Asked if the shoulder will be all right, he said, “I hope so.”
