Wizards G John Wall expected to miss 8 weeks after being diagnosed with the early stages of a stress injury to his left patella. No surgery.
Well, that came out of nowhere. Good thing he's not going under the knife.

draftwise, where do you see john wall ranking now in light of this injury?

Yeah, that is good, but the timing couldn't be worse. No camp, comes in a month after the season starts (assuming rehab goes well) and has to acclimate from there. It will be interesting to see if the Wiz make a move to bring in a vet. Are Shelvin Mack/AJ Price going to cut it?

He's 64th in our per-game projections, pre-adjustment. So knock him a bit in terms of per-game and a bit more for missing at least a month of the season. Perhaps around that 100 range, up/down based on settings and how much risk you've accumulated in the early rounds.

this is why i am a fan of doing money drafts as reasonable close to the season as possible. like one -two weeks out from the start of the season

Anyone know if this type of injury is known to be nagging? Or can we assume that once he's cleared, it's behind him?

Jordan Crawford and Bradley Beal could start the season as the Wizards backcourt, with increase in their fantasy appeal.

No surgery should indicate that the stress fracture is fairly small, but you can't return early and take any chances or you guarantee that the problem doesn't go away. Eight weeks seems like a pretty safe timeframe, but we're not going to know if it was actually sufficient until much closer to the end of it.

Man you'd really think they'd need to bring someone in.
I hear there's a Spanaird currently residing in Canana who may be available?

WAS depth and projections are now updated. Projections assume something of a Mack/Price/Crawford platoon at the point, that Wall coming back a month into the season works against him, and that Jordan Crawford will attempt and miss even more shots than usual while Wall is out. A bit of a trickle-down for Nene, with a slight uptick in usage and slight downturn in FG%.

Wiz signed Jannero Pargo to a partially guaranteed deal, so they will address Wall's absence with the in-house options.

Wiz have remained pretty tight-lipped and maintained the "no timetable" approach, but it looks like early December, on the late side of that 8-week prognostication, is the earliest he'll return.
Washington Wizards point guard John Wall said Wednesday that he still doesn’t have a target date to join his teammates for the first time this season. He continues to rehab from a stress fracture in his right knee, a daily grind that isn’t getting any easier with which to cope.
The final days of November will mark the eight-week period that Wall was expected to miss after being diagnosed with the early stages of a non-traumatic stress injury in the knee just prior to the start of training camp. However, it’s apparent that Washington’s young potential star won’t make the deadline.

The Wizards have continued to not provide many specific updates, but at this point we should be dealing in terms of weeks and not months.

Ten weeks after the Wizards announced that John Wall would miss “approximately” eight weeks because of a stress injury in his left patella, the injured point guard is still unable to practice, scrimmage or even elevate to shoot. Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld and Wall both referred to the injury as a “bump in the road” that wouldn’t keep him down for long, but the team now has no timetable for his return. His extended absence has raised concerns, but Coach Randy Wittman acknowledged Thursday that the original estimate was actually eight-to-12 weeks.

no timetable for his return = ???
Wittman's statement meaning, "everyone just calm down we still have 2 weeks before we announce he's done for the season"?

I recall reading a post a few weeks ago from a BBM member saying that Rick Kamla said something along the lines of: John Wall is done for the season.
Followed by other users not being able to verify it anywhere and saying that's not what Kamla said.
However, I recall him defending and insisting that it will come out that Wall will be shut down for the year.
Any other top secret whispers coming out?

They either underestimated/underreported the severity of the injury to start - Wittman's statement seems to point to this - or it's just not healing as quickly as everyone had hoped. Or both. The fact that he's still not elevating to take jump shots can't be a good sign, as that means they still want no real stresses on it, and you have to think that will be a gradual process, anyway. I don't know if we're weeks away from hearing that he's done for the season, but this almost certainly looks like it will be extended well beyond initial and even more recent reports. I've pushed him out to mid-January in the projections.

“We’re going to look at a lot of different things,” Wittman said. “John’s bearing doesn’t play with that because John’s still some weeks from getting on the floor and practicing. So if we were really strapped we’d bring someone in.”

Hard to drop him after holding him all this time, but the news has yet to get better. Beal is very fringey outside of punt FG%, I might try to do a bit better than that.

I figure he's worth more than a waiver wire pick up, so I'm putting out on the trading block.
Any thoughts on who would be a good buy low trade?

I'm sure I'm not the only one with Wall who isn't doing so well in their league and can't wait any longer for his return so I figured I'd post some feedback on his current trade value.
Standard H2H 12x13 9-cat
I offered Wall for Greivis Vasquez and got rejected, no counter...not a good sign
I offered Wall for DeRozan and owner rejected, but said he would wait a week or so and may go for it then....
May just be this league but things look grim.

John Wall will have his left knee re-examined by Dr. David Altchek on Friday in New York, according to league sources. The Washington Wizards are hoping the visit will provide a more specific timetable as to when Wall will return to action. After Altchek first diagnosed the injury Sept. 27, the Wizards announced Wall would be sidelined for about eight weeks. When that deadline passed, Wall said there was no timetable for his return, although he said he expects to play this season. The Wizards said the original prognosis was eight to 12 weeks. The 12-week mark is Monday. Wall, who has not yet been cleared to practice, and the Wizards hope to receive more clarity after Friday's visit.

Correct, nothing specific right now. This is his starting to increase non-contact drills, seeing how he reacts. Then it's getting back into practice, and games from there. We've currently got him slotted for a Jan 12 return. Wittman talking about it today: http://www.nba.com/wizards/video/wittman-walls-update

MrUncle - are you punting FG%? That would be the only context in which I'd be interested in acquiring Mullens, and Wall gets a boost there anyway.

After months of watching his teammates struggle to operate offensively in his absence, Washington Wizards point guard John Wall expects to return to the court when the Atlanta Hawks visit D.C. on Saturday, Craig Stouffer of The Washington Examiner reports. In a video on the Wizards' official site posted after Wednesday's practice, Wall told reporters that he fully expects to play on Saturday barring any setbacks, which he's avoided so far. Asked what he needs to do before then, Wall said, "Just keep going through these full practices without no pain, and waking up the next day, I can do it all over again."

meh. Kidd had no jumpshot early on either. Westbrook also wasn't too hot. Even Rondo has gotten better the last year or two. Not a shock to see young PGs improving in this area. I don't have the numbers to say his J his now fixed, but FG% probably has as much to do with shot selection and team spacing as shooting mechanics, and for whatever reason Wall's has gotten better without doubt. And his athleticism is still elite. I'm of the mind that his "dissapointing" first couple of seasons had more to do with being stuck in the middle of a 3 ring circus than anything else.
And this is pretty interesting I think- first 3 seasons (FG%):
Wall: 0.409, 0.423, 0.455
Westbrook: 0.418, 0.422, 0.457
Not completely dissimilar players no?

Yeah, that all makes sense, but...
Wall FG% through 24 games: 40.3%
Wall FG% on long 2s through Feb 19: 30.0%
Wall FG% past 14 games: 52.3%
Wall FG% on long 2s since Feb 19: 47.1%
So it's looking less like a maturation of skills in his third season, and more like a ridiculous jump over the past month. Of course if he settles in somewhere in the middle, of course your point still stands.
