This from rotoworld:
George Karl said that he's currently planning to start Timofey Mozgov over JaVale McGee at center.
"Training camp is going to tell me who plays — my idea right now is (Timofey) Mozgov would start with (power forward Kenneth) Faried and JaVale would stay with (reserve point guard) Andre Miller," Karl said. "But again, I don’t give a (darn) about starting lineups, and you guys are already stirring the pot." Karl also added that McGee needs to get "more fundamental" and "be more simple." McGee averaged 20.5 minutes last season, but his new $44 million contract is a sign that those minutes should rise.
McGee fanboy's might want to cool your jets. 0% Agree (0 votes) |
mcgee killed me after his Denver trade last year. Still Mozgov ain't worth 15 minutes a night. Mcgee signed for what centers are going for, not what he has earned or deserved. Koustos will prolly start if/when Javale finds karl's doghouse.

I'm all for guys with big upside in the middle rounds but I've owned McGee for the past 3 seasons and enough is enough. There's too a high a possibility that he won't start in DEN and will only play around 25 MPG. Too much risk at his current ADP of 63.

I felt BBM's 30 mpg projection for McGee was too high after following this guy for the past few seasons, and I don't think anyone who has would be shocked to hear this quote even after the contract. I'll believe 30mpg when I see it.
If anything I take this as good news for Faried, because it looks like he has Karl's trust locked up. I wouldn't be surprised to see Faried above his projected 28mpg and closer to his per36 numbers.

I'm looking at two quotes above from Karl - "Training camp is going to tell me who plays" and "you guys are already stirring the pot" - and wondering why this is automatically a death knell for JaVale's fantasy prospects. McGee posted per-game ranks of 67 and 81 over the past two seasons with 28 and 25 minutes, respectively. If you believe that McGee will come into camp and stink up the joint, then that's something else entirely.

I wouldn't call it a death knell by any means, but I agree with Marlin in that I don't like him the the 60s. I'd personally just be more comfortable projecting him with 25mpg rather than 30. That still puts him inside the top 100 (just).

For those of us punting FT%, McGee projects to be 4th round value even at 25 mpg. I'm very comfortable drafting him in the 7th, not sure if I want to reach in the 6th.

McGee is likely behind Kosta Koufos in his bid to claim the Nuggets' starting center job, the Denver Post reports.
Recommendation: "If I had to start off by performance in training camp, I'd say Kosta (Koufos) would get the start," coach George Karl said Tuesday after the Nuggets' practice. Karl also noted that he likes McGee playing with Andre Miller, who runs the offense at a slower tempo than the speedy Ty Lawson, leaving McGee less prone to making mistakes. McGee has averaged 7.8 points and 3.4 rebounds thus far in training camp, and though he possesses more physical tools than Koufos and fellow center Timofey Mozgov, it appears Karl seems set on dispersing the minutes among all three players rather than relying on one player to handle the bulk of the frontcourt duty.

Hey,
McGee has just been dropped in my league. He's still excellent in stats per 36minutes (20pts/10rbs/3blks), but I don't follow much Denver. Any chance he might get some more run? 30minutes?
thks

More minutes in general is not out of the question as the season moves along but there is no chance he gets anywhere near 30 mpg without a major Koufos injury. That said, he's exactly the kind of player you want to roster when he's 130th in per-game at just under 19 mpg - just scale what he's doing now up to 22 mpg and you get 12.2 pts, 6.7 reb, and 1.9 blk.
