So this evening(or morning for some of you guys) I read this article:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390443389604578024863055400942.html?mod=rss_NBAAndKnicks

Some parts that caught me:

At a fashion event earlier in the week, Anthony said he was fine with the notion of power forward Amar'e Stoudemire doing the lion's share of the work in the post. "That whole area near the basket? He can have it. It's all his," Anthony said, smiling.

and

"I'm tired of scoring 30 or 40 points a game. There's probably going to be times where I have to do it, or I'm in a groove," he said, promoting his new Jordan brand shoe line. "But if I'm doing that night-in, night-out, we're not going to have the balance that we need to win."

What do you guys think? Good for his value or Amare's?

Sounds like a whole lot of "what players say before the games begin." Seriously, he's just giving the standard friendly answer for the media. I'm sure his intentions are good but when the game starts and the competitive juices are flowing, I find it hard to believe Anthony willingly takes a back seat. Not changing anyone's value over this.

Maybe you're right. I guess it would be the same with some guys that supposedly "improved" their FT shooting.

that sounds like " I'm not interested in doing any of the dirty work" to me. Thing is, like LeBron, Melo is actually pretty effective in the post...I think...linus

Not sure how else would he answer a leading question like that. My guess is that what he's really tired of is hearing about ISOmelo's affect on Amar'e and the Knicks' decision on Lin. Once games start, he always feels like he's "in a groove."

Melo will the main ISO player in Woodson's offense - think a more talented Joe Johnson in his prime year's in ATL as Woodson's main ISO player.  Melo, playing under Woodson, finished last season as the #23 last 2 months player & #4 last month player.  Take all this off-season talk with a grain of salt and realize that the ball will be in his hands more often than not.  Melo has a very good chance to post the best fantasy season of his career.

It's worth noting for that last month neither Amare or J.Lin were playing. So keep that in mind.
I'm not optimistic about Melo as a top 15 player next year.

Obviously Melo has been playing great this season and owners have come to expect 1st round numbers from him.  But will Amare's upcoming return affect his production at all?  Might he be a sell high (very high)?

Amar'e will be asked to come off the bench and stay out of the way. I don't see a reason to worry that he'd be allowed to slow Melo's roll, they would burn MSG to the ground if Woodson allowed that to happen. If you can get Chris Paul or James Harden, that's another story.

This has nothing to do with him stalking KG but rather why he is so much more produtive in NY than Denver. Anyone know why? Before I guessed Mike D'Antoni but he's  gone so I have no real exploanation. I refuse to believe that he's just gotten so much better overnight. Maybe his game has matured a  little bit and a spike in his stats directly correlates with Amare being out this year and last but I'd like to understand the whole picture. Last year I expected what he is doing this year which is somewhat maddening. However, I digress. Anyone got some answers or theories at least.

He's playing PF most of the time and taking better shots (basically he's cut out alot of the isolation long range 2's) He's either taking it to the rack or taking 3's....and he's making his 3's at an unreal clip. I believe he averaged 1.0 3's per game in Denver and is at like 2.5 this season. Woodson is letting him fling it and he's making alot of them.

What VS said. Tommy Beer had a good breakdown here, which we discussed on the most recent podcast: http://www.hoopsworld.com/keys-to-carmelo-anthonys-career-year/

Carmelo Anthony flying to NY to get knee drained, said he was naive to think he could play thru pain:

We've got him listed as out through the current road trip (tonight @POR, Sun @LAC, Mon @UTA). We'll see what kind of updates we get in the interim.

Carmelo Anthony had a soft tissue fluid collection of his posterior right knee aspirated today in NY. He is questionable for Sunday at LA.

The Knicks seem to have escaped a major scare with Carmelo Anthony's troublesome right knee, and they are hopeful the same will be said for Tyson Chandler's left one. Anthony had the fluid drained from the back of his right knee Thursday in New York and will rejoin the Knicks in Los Angeles Friday. But it's unclear when he will be able to return to the lineup.

Mike Woodson said Anthony will be re-evaluated in Los Angeles and get treatment and that they'll proceed from there. The Knicks are listing him as questionable for Sunday's game against the Clippers, but it will be surprising if he can play. Earlier in the day on his radio show, Woodson said he was "worried" about his star, but the coach was relieved after he spoke to Anthony following the procedure.

"I feel good," Woodson said, "when he tells me it was just drained. He didn't say when he will be ready. I'm just assuming he's going to be ready soon. It wasn't nothing majorly wrong with it. We've got to nurse him back, get him feeling good about himself, get him back out on the floor and get it going again. He felt pretty good about it, so I feel good."

"Night and day," Anthony said. "I can feel the difference night and day. Just being able to move laterally, jump and just hopefully get back to what I was doing. Now it's a matter of getting that pop back, that power back in that leg." When Anthony was asked about discomfort, he said, "No more." When he was asked about stiffness, he said, "It's gone." Anthony said a "slight hamstring pull" led to the fluid buildup and added that he won't need any offseason surgery. "No. No. No," he said. "I'm good now. I feel good. My knee feels good. My body feels good. That was the only thing that was holding me back."

Anthony said he will work out Tuesday and see how he feels Wednesday when the Knicks host Orlando. After that, they play a home-and-home back-to-back with Toronto that begins Friday. He could return at some point this week.
