Whats the scoop on Nene Buser?

This foot problem going to be a issue all year? Do we think he starts the season?

I would think he was in line for a big year. Then his PG goes down now the foots a problem again.

Any thoughts on the Brazillian..

He's about 3.5 months removed from the aggravation of the injury in the Olympics, and the Wiz letting him take it easy is the best course of action. That said, that his foot is still a concern is most recertainly a red flag, and no camp participation and losing Wall are not positives. From a per-game perspective, he should still do reasonably well, but I'm not a fan of grabbing him before that Rd7 range at this point given the possibility of missed games. If you do draft him, handcuff Kevin Seraphin.

In a word, yes. Emeka plays his minutes and tanks your FT% in any case. The scope of Seraphin's role is most certainly tied to Nene's availability.

To go different from the Seraphin thought real quick, wouldn't Booker get first crack at starting PF? He did it for a good chunk of the year.

Booker gets a bump, as well, but Nene isn't going to only play PF.

Nene remains uncertain about return link

“I was a little behind, than I thought,” Nene said, when explaining the reason for the treatment. “It’s still inflamed. I just want to take care of it the right way. But all the exercises, I’ve been doing fine. I’ve been listening. I’ve been obedient.”

He was never a GTD, the Wiz have made a concerted effort to maintain the "no timetable" front and have been tight-lipped with updates.

not just making it up! from rotoworld;

Nene Hilario - F/C - WAS - Oct. 30 - 12:42 pm et Nene, who was originally listed as "out" for the season opener on Wednesday, has been upgraded to a game-time decision, according to Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio.

Guess it was another bogus report from FOX, lol.

Strange. Maybe done by the team hoping for slightly better PR for the opener?

The full RW report:

Nene, who was originally listed as "out" for the season opener on Wednesday, has been upgraded to a game-time decision, according to Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio, but the Wizards and Randy Wittman have both denied that is accurate.
This is a weird situation that is only getting weirder. Nene's foot problems will likely last throughout the year as he's been dealing with the plantar fasciitis since last season, and we'd recommend letting another owner draft Nene considering his uncertain long-term outlook. It doesn't sound like Nene is close to returning despite the Fox Sports Ohio report. Oct 30 - 12:42 PM

Nene just got dropped in my league.
I'm way down low in waivers, but is it worth taking a flier on hiM?

Listening to Saturday's MIL @ WAS game, the TV announcer said this about Nene:

"still just trying to get it to the point where he can come back and play"

That's not very specific.  They were able to say 3-4 more weeks for Wall.

Per Rotoword this morning:

Nene (foot) admitted recently that he experienced soreness after increasing his workload and has slowed down his recovery.

Nene also needed electronic stimulation after he suffered a setback last month. Nene has said repeatedly he won't return until he's 100 percent, but no one seems to know when that will be. Kevin Seraphin, Trevor Booker and Emeka Okafor will continue to get more time as long as Nene remains out.

At this point, yes. I dropped Nene today in a 12x14 league where I drafted him with pick 116.

Nene returned to practice today, but still no timetable for his return.

I am in an absurdly deep points league, where big men are very valuable.  Is it time to jump or should I wait?  I already have the Bynum albatross on my bench and around my neck, so Nene may cripple my ability to compete in the short term if I grab him, but is it worth the upside upon his return?

I'm not really convinced that Bynum is a better hold than Nene right now, but it seems to me that they both should be rostered in an "absurdly deep" league like that. The fact that Nene participated in practice at all qualifies as a posititive development.

Ric Bucher
Look for Nene to make season debut on Wednesday
Nene went through a full two-hour workout today and while it remains to be seen how he responds tomorrow, there's a good chance he could go vs. the Hawks. Happy Thanksgiving to the Wizards, indeed

At the very least, this means he's much closer to a return than we thought. Grab him and see what happens.

Nene went through a full two hour practice for the Wizards on Tuesday and is hoping to make his season debut on Wednesday, if his feet respond positively in the morning.

That was a quick ride from "out indefinitely" to "back in action," although we also haven't see him play yet. This will be a big hit to guys like Kevin Seraphin, Trevor Booker and possibly Emeka Okafor, unless Seraphin continues to start at center like did for the start of the second half on Monday. As for Nene, the talent and skills are all there, but his health will likely be an issue all year. He's been out with plantar fasciitis all season, but finally appears ready to battle through it. If you have someone to cut and need a big man, go get him.

As his teammates started running laps around the court before shootaround at Philips Arena, Nene stepped on the floor, aware that many want to know if he will be available when the Wizards play the Hawks tonight. “It’s a chance,” Nene said, scrunching his face as he stretched. “If you ask now, I’d say no.”

Good luck with him, damaged "goods" for yrs now...

"Nene will play through his injured foot for the time being.

"His foot is still injured, but he’s sacrificing that for the good of the team," said rookie Bradley Beal. "To get him back means a lot for our team," Randy Wittman added. It's just a reminder that Nene will likely battle his case of plantar fasciitis throughout the year and will remain an injury risk."

So they owe him $39M over the next three seasons, but his playing through a chronic condition for a remote chance at possible short-term gain is for the good of the team?

I grabbed Nene in a H2H points league.  My team is strong enough to survive with him only chipping in 20min/night.  I am holding right now on the hopes that, come fantasy playoffs, he will be at full strength.  Is this a fool's errand?  If he gets "healthy" this year, what is his ceiling?  Can he reach 28-30mpg?  Should I try and deal now to someone who thinks they are buying low?

There's most certainly a chance. If he has no setbacks, then they'll keep raising his minutes to around that level. But it comes down to how healthy you think he'll stay. Toni doesn't think he'll make it.

I would settle for Nene to play 25 minutes but play every game. This every game may play or may not really blows. I own him in 1 league and I got him off waivers. So my expectations are lower than people who burned a top 80 pick on him. I just don't see any WW guys with his upside. I think I cut Singler for him.

As someone holding Nene in a few leagues I'll answer this..

- 122 overall in pergame over the last 2 weeks while playing less than 23mpg

- 46th overall in pergame over the last week with the minutes slowly creeping up (just under 24mpg now)

- He's easily been a top 50 guy over the past few years when injury hasn't derailed him.

I'll hapilly take this over the worst guy on the vast majority of rosters.

avatarscottkimberly (100 posts)  12/20/2012 1:17 AM

I can think of plenty of scenarios in which Nene should be rostered. In H2H and roto Nene is a serious plus contributor in FG% (8-10FG tonight), which is a very difficult cat to maintain.  Also, in a points league (I play in one), if he is getting 25minutes a night he is going to pitch in a substantially better total than what is available on free agency.

I say hold on him. Value should not go down (except for injury, obviously), and even at 25min/gm I think he needs to be rostered.

Anyone can not agree with me but many times thru out the yrs I got same thing over and over again "just" reallity & time to confirm how things stand (about diff.players, remembering going back & forth for years with "tupark" (poster from busersports, he is not here on BBM) didnt want to see reallity about B.Roy, Bogut, Bynum and not to name all others). People its not rocket science to look about facts & history when someone have chronic type of injuries, its not worth it owning him no matter if you are optimistic and always having hope that person/player will sudenly be poster child for health-that doesnt mean he will heal bc of your wishes & hope. I'm always for great risk-great reward tactics (owning Steph in many leagues this year) but when some player "show you" year after year he cant stay healthy then I cant blame him for making mistake(s) owning him again after all that, its only on you.

And like I already mention all the way from summer till today here is it again for 100th time:

Neve who played in back-to-back games, said that he's still feeling pain in his left foot. Nene's case of plantar fasciitis is one of the worst we've ever tracked. "I have no strength," he said. "No energy. I'm weak right now. Sick." The Wizards are hoping that they can increase Nene's minutes soon, but that's going to be difficult to do if he's still in pain.

If anyone think that plantar fasc.will go away any time soon in his career well I can just say:keep him and dont loose hope, everything is possible, like 2012 end of the world, maybe will really happenangry

I don't need him to be pain-free. I just need him to play. So far this year, he has played through pain since his return and produced stellar returns for a free agent add, and I will continue to ride that until he misses time.
