It's time to talk about Ed Davis. Thinking about dropping Aminu is my keeper league for him. He's playing out of his mind right now. Does anyone expect him to keep this up? His chances of cracking the starting lineup look promising.
Interesting note: Ed Davis also leads the Toronto Raptors in rebounds averaged per game. This is pathetic for the Toronto Raptors. What's not pathetic is that he's leading the team in rebounds in a mere 15 minutes per game averaged on the season.

Ed Davis looked great last night and would have been even better if not for some questionable fouls.

Picked him up in my 16x15 h2h league, and he's been impressive in limited minutes. Wish he could get around 25 min a night

It's looking good for him in the short-term, with Bargnani questionable with an elbow injury and Amir heading for a suspension.

Ed Davis been playing more minutes
also bargnani out now bc of elbow indefinitely 0% Agree (0 votes) |
Let's just keep this our little secret until I pick up Jermaine O'Neal 2.0 in every league possible...

Davis has been upgraded in the short-term, but we'll have to see about more Bargnani details before we crank up Davis' numbers too much.

Talk about a home run start yesterday. He easily looked like the best player on the court for the raps. Let the Ed Davis show begin. Glad I snatched him before my unsuspecting league peers could blink. I'd like to thank Cap for initially turning my gaze towards him. Well done sir, well done.

I'm also giving props to Cap for putting Davis on my radar by talking about him in another thread. Last night was great, but Davis did it with Amir Johnson sitting out serving a supsension.
Question is what happens next. Davis did his thing last night by getting 42 minutes. That's not likey to happen with Amir back.
Are we looking at PF and C minutes in Toronto being split fairly evenly across Davis, Amir, and Jonas V?

Regarding minutes: clearly Davis won't play 45 minutes every night, but Aaron Gray won't play 17 every night either. Look for the playing time to be split fairly evenly, with Davis having the advantage over Amir as the starter - he could get a serious bump if he's consistently good from the tip. Valanciunas' propensity to foul will keep him from true starter's minutes, and Gray is only going to be brought out when they need a real wide-body.
100% Agree (1 vote) |
Davis is likely worth a pickup with Bargs out, and he had a very good game in the first start. He would well be pretty solid overall. Still, I'd expect some inconsistency and wouldn't expect a full out 15/10 averages style break out. 11/9 maybe.

Glad I could help, as long as you're not in my league! Like I said before, I've seen every Raps game so far, and he's one of the only players I can honestly say has brought any energy to the table. He is a must-own in any format right now. Amir will continue to come off the bench, while Davis and Valanciunas continue to start. When the dust settles in Toronto, and mark my words, it's about to get real dusty here soon, Ed Davis and Jonas Valanciunas will be the frontcourt of the future here, so look for them to get all the minutes they can handle as this season disappears into oblivion. I don't see any reason why Ed Davis can't at least flirt with his per-36 #s of 14.7 PTS, 12.2 REB, 1.3 STL, and 1.4 BLK on .573% and .735% shooting.
50% Agree (2 votes) |
Any reasonable drop here, to go after Ed Davis before he has another monster game and gets snatched up right quick?
I'd love to see Cap's per-36 numbers bear out, then we're talking about a Top 25-ish player and I could easily see dropping Jason Thompson. But since Thompson has been solid and fairly consistent for me thus far (but I'm always worried about Thomas Robinson getting more burn down the stretch run of this season), and since Thompson is likely to get snatched up as soon as I drop him, I'm wondering if Ed Davis is really worth the risk. . . Hardly a sure thing.

And yeah, I'm working hard towards consolidating my roster with some kind of 3-for-2 or 2-for-1 trades (or *disguised* 2-for-1's). I love having deep teams, but I hate having ALL 16 GUYS performing at this level, where I inevitably have to leave some good production on my bench when we have a full schedule (like, every Wednesday and Friday). If I could get one of those trades done, I'd have more roster flexibility to pick up a guy like Ed Davis with some huge upside. For now, however.....

That's tough, I'm not particularly a fan of George Hill, J.R. Smith, Thompson, or MWP, but they are all doing enough to be rosterable. I personally would prefer Davis over Thompson right now.
0% Agree (0 votes) |
Yeah, Hill, Smith, and MWP (and Lin and Gallinari) are some of the primary guys I'm shopping, because they're collectively killing my FG%. Unfortunately, I'm also light on SF's, with my only 3 SF-eligible players ALL being included in that mix of guys I'd like to unload. Not sure I can afford to drop any of them without facing some missed Games Played consequences.... I'm considering offering up a Kobe-for-Melo trade that would help mitigate those concerns, but again, that doesn't do much for the short-term issue of trying to find someone to drop in favor of Ed Davis.

I dropped Gerald Henderson for Ed Davis a couple days ago.. but I have a question. Is Ed Davis just a short term fix? Will he have value for the rest of the season, or is this just until Bargnani out?

He'll only have true value while Bargnani is out, but that's for long enough to really be a boost to fantasy teams. I'm not in favor of dropping sure things for him, but he's better than a lot of team's worst players, fringey guys like Henderson included.

He could perform well enough though to cement a significant role. Barg's career has been largely underwhelming and supposedly there was a report somewhere where he called his team the worst in the NBA. This just might be the year Colangelo finally realizes its best to trade him away.

Thank you guys for the response. I guess my concern is should I pursue options that might be more long term? My team is doing well enough that I don't really need the additional bump in rebounds/blocks in the short term. My team is currently in 3rd place at the moment, and its a shallow 10 team league. Guys like Cj Miles, J Rich, Marion, Korver, Bellineli, Beal, Ilyasova, Blatche, Kawhi Leonard are still out there.

I think Barg's comments and play have bought him a one way ticket out of town. If he's reinserted into the starting lineup after he's cleared to play I have to believe the players, fans, and media in Toronto would revolt.

Why don't you post in the team analysis forum and we can go a bit deeper there? Don't want to hijack this thread. Make sure that your active players are set correctly.

As a guy who swooped up Ed Davis in my one and only league this season, I am VERY interested to see how he performs tonight. The hype machine has been in full effect since his 24 and 12 the other night but I'm not expecting that kind of production every night. That being said, I'd be perfectly satisfied with him "just" producing at or near his per-36s.
100% Agree (1 vote) |
The problem with Davis reaching his per-36 #s as per-game averages during this stint is him somehow playing 36 mpg. ~28-30 mpg is much more likely imo.
100% Agree (1 vote) |
Hey everyone,
I'm in a dilemma and wanted your guys's opinion. I just dropped Vucevic for Ed Davis and I'm not sure which player is better for my team. For a low end big at the end of my bench, should I keep Davis or pick back up Vucevic? Derrick Favors is also available as well. My concern is that Davis won't reach his per-36 stats due to guys like Kleiza and Amir Johnson in the rotation. But Vucevic can also be inconsistent at times and on Rotoworld, there were grumblings that Jacque Vaughn might tinker with his starting lineup. What do you guys think?

grab favours. One of those bigs has to get traded out at some stage.

It sounds like plucking good FA off the wire isn't a problem for you, so I'd go with the hot hand, and that's most certainly going to be Davis. His per-30s are 12/10/1/1, so he doesn't have to post his per-36s to be very solid. Vuc's job wasn't and isn't in danger, but he's pretty vanilla in a 10x14 league, and with Favors the concern is plantar fasciitis.

Davis or Mullens? Thinking Mullens by a wide margin; am I underestimating the chaos in that frontcourt?
edit: to clarify, punt fg%.

Amir Johnson has been outplaying Ed Davis the last 2 weeks and has been very consistent over that time period as well. Who do you like better for 9-cat h2h?

For fantasy purposes, this Toronto coach is the worst. I dropped Davis because I'm sick of this yo-yo rotation he has going.

With Bargs and Jonas out there is opportunity for plenty of minutes for both guys. Short term, I'm leaning toward Amir. I've never seen Davis play but I'm assuming he must have a lot of upside.
I currently have Ed, I think both guys provide fantasy value so it's tough to pick from the two. I need Buser's insight, please help me Buse.

Not a lot of separation there, but I'd be going with the hot hand right now, and that's most certainly Amir.

Thanks Buser. I'll hold Davis for now, we're limited to 40 moves on the season so unless there is further seperation, I'm gonna conserve moves.

I've enjoyed owning Davis ever since Bargnani was on the shelf. Is it time to drop Davis now that he is behind Z-Bo on Memphis?
100% Agree (2 votes) |
Yea. It time to drop Davis. He is basically the new Marreese Speight now seeing a little bit over 20 mpg going forward.
