I'm in a Yahoo! Head-to-Head league with no injured reserve. Should I drop him now? I mean, will he be out for at least a month? What do you think? Is he worth hanging onto if he's injured for a significant period for Head-to-Head leagues?

I could add: CJ Miles, John Salmons, Jason Maxiell, Jeff Green, J.J. Barea, Alexey Shved
Oh ya, I've also recently dropped: Patrick Patterson (who I might be able to pick up later if he clears waivers), and Al-Farouq Aminu (who must also clear waivers, since I dropped him recently) - so technically these two are available as well.
I'm first place in my league right now (5-0-1), comfortable lead for now (although it's early in the season), I could certainly hang onto him, but is he worth it?
Alternately, I can drop Kawhi Leonard or Carl Landry - Landry hasn't been playing great lately after a good start, and Kawhi Leonard is injured and doesn't seem to do much for me, since I've pretty crappy at steals with or without him.

I'd probably sit tight in that situation, given the entire context. Off-topic: I'd drop Reggie Evans for Shved.

Well, Shved scares me because Rubio is coming back soon, and that backcourt is crowded with Barea, Rubio, Ridnour, Shved and Malcolm Lee (who has no value at all). Shved's numbers are borderline acceptable at this point, and with Rubio coming back, it's likely to get worse.
I have Reggie Evans as a specialist supplement to my roster. I'm already strong in rebounds, but I can plug Reggie Evans in whenever I play an equally strong rebounding team. Look at Evans last few games, especially as a starter:

Whenever he's gotten at least 27 minutes per game, he's gotten 10 rebounds.
I think it's reasonable to expect Evans to be a 10 rebound per game guy as long as he remains the starter and/or gets over 25+ minutes per game going forward.
Let me ask you this, ignoring your projections of Evans at this minute - lets say I believe Evans is gonna average 10 rebounds per game the rest of the year, but all his other stats basically stay the same. Would you say he's worth keeping in my league now? (take note, my league has defensive rebounds also as an additional category, as well as total rebounds - but it's also an 11 category league, so each category isn't worth as much either).

Bargs turning into bust A.Bogut type...
Stuck with one more injury year, good luck getting offers for him, and when/if get healthy again Raptors will be getting 20c on dollar value.
With all this now Jose will be traded w/o him.

Yes, this is true...but you need to take into account that Rick Adelman's already pegged Shved as Minnesota's "SG of the future". Now, you can take that kind of sound bite with as many grains of salt as you want, but at least it's coming from more of a "basketball mind" than what the Timberpups have had in recent years (Kurt Rambis, anyone?).
If you have the slot to burn, I'd go in on Shved just to see if the Rubio/Shved backcourt comes to fruition, as Coach Adelman has alluded to recently.

Yes, I guess you're right over the long run. Even if I edited Reggie Evans stats to have 10 rebounds per game (as I did above).
But, I'm going to hang onto him for this week, since it's going to be tight in rebounds with my matchup. I could use the extra rebounds (whereas, I'm killing him in most other categories). One thing these value charts don't show is that I won't be starting Evans the majority of the time, so he won't impact me as much as my main 9 guys. The only time I'll start him is when I don't have all my guys playing for that particular day (and Evans is available for that day), and also whenever I feel I need extra rebounds as opposed to some other stats (if I'm likely to be leading my opponent in those other stats by the end of the week, but it's close in rebounds).

I'd drop bargs for Bledsoe
actually I would have done that a while ago.

is it too early to drop bargnani in a 150 deep league?
who are some players that you would drop him for?

150 deep I would seriously consider dropping him. How about you tell us who's available rather than us suggesting randoms who might be?

i am more curious as to whether news will be coming out in the next few days providing a more detailed timetable rather than a beat writer's musings
100% Agree (1 vote) |
I dropped him for Ed Davis, but it's a tough call. The Raps probably want to feature him as much as possible if they really are interested in trading him as has been speculated, so even if Davis keeps putting up numbers, he'll probably go back to 15-20 if Bargs makes a relatively swift return. My decision was predicated on the gaping hole in my roster--I'm in a H2H league, and couldn't afford to leave a big man slot empty for two to three weeks--so your situation might merit more patience.
0% Agree (0 votes) |
I'm gonna drop him in my 11-cat H2H league. He's a low end bench player in my league mainly because he only produces a decent number of Points, 3PT, along with a good FT%, but very little else. I love the versatility he brings by being a stretch frontcourt player (3s from the Center Position), but other than that, he's not worth very much as you can see by his value listed below.
Also, his inconsistency leaves alot to be desired, his FG% is atricious, and if Ed Davis continues to play well, we could start to see him lose minutes, his starting position or both. All in all, I don't think this absence bodes well for Bargnani.
If he was healthy, I'd hang onto him as a bench scorer, 3-point specialist. But honestly, from what I heard, he'll be out a minimum of 3 weeks, and I believe that's a generous estimation (this type of injury typical takes a player out for 1-2 months). Bargnani simply is not worth hanging onto in H2H leagues for that amount of time, unless your league has an injured reserve.
I didn't get the waiver claim for CJ Miles, so I'm gonna try to get Kyle Korver who's available in my league's waiver wire.

i am going to hold since his absence may be as little as 3 weeks unless someone with top 70 upside appears on the wire

Any idea when he will be back? In a very deep points league and considering the add, but empty roster spaces kill in this H2H league, so I wouldn't want to have an inactive for too long. Byron Mullens also available. Thoughts?

Its still early for both, specially for Mully.

Projected returns for both Bargnani and Mullens are late January.

Thanks! Was thinking about picking the former back up on the assumption that the absence of news suggested a surprise return was in the works. Glad I waited.

Beat writer Eric Koreen suggests Andrea Bargnani (elbow) could be out another month.
Bargnani sustained a ligament tear in his shooting elbow on Dec. 10. The Raptors have been extremely tight-lipped about the exact severity of the injury and a timetable, probably because they're trying to trade him behind closed doors. Thanks in part to the underrated contributions of Ed Davis and Amir Johnson, they've gone 8-2 since Bargs went down.

Any thought on picking him up?
100% Agree (1 vote) |
IMO wait until he's back outright. Even if he returns to the starting lineup, which (again IMO) now seems likely regardless of Casey's earlier statement, there's too much value elsewhere right now, and I think it's still going to be a couple weeks.
Edit: With Davis gone, things change. Consider picking him up if you're really hurting.

He should be about 10 days out or so from a return. Not much better floor-ceiling potential (125-75) than most "solid" free agents.

Bargs is somewhat practicing so a return should be in the 2 week range at worst. If Toronto wants to trade bargs he will get minutes. I have said before Toronto's depth is overstated. When ur bench guys are equallish to ur starters u appear to be deep. BUT u really just need better starters. There should be an evident dropoff to bench guy from starter. Especially in the salary cap era.

Andrea Bargnani will miss the remainder of the season with an avulsion sprain of his right elbow, an injury that is not related to his previous elbow issue. That won't help rejuvenate his trade value for next season.

I'm pretty sure the only way Bargnani isn't playing for the Raptors next season is if the amnesty him. Nobody is going to want to pay him $22M over the next two seasons.

And yet I've seen a lot of people saying the Raptors are expected to use their amnesty on Kleiza's 4.6M for next year rather than Bargs' 22M for the next two years. Interesting to see whether Colangelo is ok eating his mistake and ownership is ok giving up on that money.

Yeah, I'm not sure it's all that likely. My post was probably more just a reaction to the "Bargnani has played his last game as a Raptor" meme. Nobody in their right mind is going to trade for him before he's back on the court next season.

Oh, I agree on that point entirely. My response to Raptor fans who say "just trade him away" is that someone has to want him, and with the way he's playing, that's only going to happen if the Raptors take back an equally terrible contract or give away an actually valuable asset. Teams have traded away terrible contracts before, so I won't rule it out, but it doesn't help the Raptors' cause that they can't try to pass the contract onto Colangelo, but have to find another GM to make a terrible decision.
