Looked like a nasty injury last night, could miss some time, any updates? Not that he's universally owned or anything, but he's been pretty useful so far. Who is the major beneficiary? I'm guessing Ayon gets a chance to start, Nicholson has been alright this season too, not that either are too exciting but hey, some people are even still rostering Ersan Ilyasova so you could do worse. 0% Agree (0 votes) |
I'm guessing this injury puts Baby in a corner for a while. Your guess at who benefits is as good as any.

It's hard to say who benefits since the injury occurred with less than a minute left in the game. Nicholson is my bet, but we'll see what Matt has to say. Unfortunately, the Magic have 3 games 4 out of the next 5 weeks so the upside may be minimal.

Nicholson is a better bet for the starting five, given his offensive skills, but there would be enough minutes available for more than one player to benefit (Ayon). In the rotation so far, Vaughn has utilized Nicholson/McBob as PF and Ayon as the backup C. McBob is the x-factor: he hasn't been playing as much lately but Vaughn hasn't exactly been easy to forecast thus far, either.

Crisis averted? Looks like it's not long-term, exactly how long TBD:
Davis, Glen PF ORL - After further evaluation, Glen Davis has been diagnosed with a left shoulder sprain. The MRI showed no significant structural damage. He will be treated non-operatively. Treatment will include rest and subsequent strengthening of the muscles around his shoulder. 12/20/2012 11:37 AM CDT

I own Davis in a pretty shallow 10 team league with unlimited moves and GP, should I drop him? I try to maximize my GP in this league so any lingering injuries usually get sent to the WW. If he misses say 3 games then it might be worth holding on to him, but if he misses like 5-10 then I'd rather use his spot on someone healthy since there are plenty of options available. Any comparable injuries or an estimated timeline?

I think he's out a month or so - first rest, then rehab, then a return. "Not long term" was meaning it wasn't an extrememely damaging separation or anything of the like.
@JoshuaBRobbins
A guess: I don't expect Glen Davis to play again soon. But the injury could have been a lot worse.

Matt,
As long as Davis is out, does AA get a small upgrade in usage? (and numbers....)

Sure, the other starters are a bit more featured now, but nothing dramatic for anyone in particular.

4-6 weeks "according to multiple reports" but nothing official from the team.

According to this article, big baby is creeping closer to returning. Possibly within 2 weeks.

He's sitting out there on my league wire and I'm starting to think about when I should go for adding him.
But...what do we think is going to happen upon his return? Will he jump right back in and get his 30+ mpg? Or is Orlando going to go into tank mode and improve its lottery positioning?
Remember, when they dealt Howard they didn't want player assets (like Bynum) in return as they didn't want to be in that NBA no-mans land of not being good enought to go deep in the playoffs but not bad enough to get top draft picks. If tank mode happens, it would seem that Davis' minutes would need to get cut.

First, I think it's too early to go into tank mode, especially since they don't even have that far to fall. Second, for a guy you're picking off the wire that's a small enough risk that's its practically negligible. Make the move

Broken foot, could miss the rest of the season, but we won't know a timetable until he's evaluated in ORL. His last long-term injury didn't produce much in terms of waiver adds, should just be a mash-up of minutes between Hedo-Moore-Harkless (small) and Ayon-Nicholson (big).

Who going to benefit the most from Big Baby absence. Gustavo Ayon, Andrew Nicholson or Hedo Turkoglu?

based on results from last time he was out no one is going to shine too much. Unless it's a very deep league where Nicholson somehow becomes rosterable.

Hey all/Matt,
Who are some guys you would recommend to pick up as replacement C for Davis that might be on waivers in a 12 team L? Waivers look pretty barren...

Might be? Why don't you just tell us who is actually available?
