Does anyone know how long he was out for the same type of injury in the 07-08 season?

Hard to say, because he did it towards the end of the season, tried to play through it but eventually shut it down and underwent off-season surgery.

If they were to trade for a PG who would you see as likely candidates? You don't think Tinsley has it in him to be a NBA starter?

Tinsley is 34 years old and certainly not someone they want to rely on over a substantial length of time. With Mo expiring, PG would be a position of need, but there aren't exactly a lot of PG on the market, either.

Could you see them going after IT2 since SAC is so reluctant to give him run even if the players want him there? Im trying to figure out good trade targets before the other managers in my league catch on

whos going to be the best PG to pick up (for steals and assists) out of the pack?

Dug something up that said last time he has surgery he was out six weeks from basketball related activity. Does that mean 7-8 weeks before he returns? This sucks. Should I drop him and pick him back up later?

I'd wait for official confirmation to be sure, but that's a likely timeframe if he does need surgery. Tinsley will be the best PG to pick up out of the pack, but don't be expecting robust lines.

I think the 9-19 Raptors are pretty much going to explore their options this month, and if they want to sell Bargnani as a 11-12 million dollar player to other teams, then Calderon is that other trade chip that makes it happen. I don't see why Utah would want Bargnani, but if Calderon's on the out, then there's a bunch of players Utah has that Toronto wants. Maybe a third team takes "Il Mago".

"Severely" and Mo Williams are never a good combination to hear in sentence. I knew what I was getting into when I drafted him and already regret it. There is no timetable yet, but the way Mo heals up, doesnt sound like any time soon. Time to drop?
Noteable adds on the wire:
Tinsley, Sessions, Ridnour, Hedo (back soon?), Terry, Dunleavy, Dorell Wright
As you can see my team is dropping like flies.

With those options, I'd offer him to a top team that can offord to wait on an injury first - it's very doubtful that he'd clear waivers.

I'm eagerly awaiting Mo Will updates. What would you say the likely minimum time he'll sit out is? If it's over 2 weeks, I'll want to replace him.
I'm thinking about picking up Chalmers to replace fill in the PG spot.

Following a second magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test and a consultation between Dr. Michelle Carlson and the Utah Jazz medical staff, it was determined that Williams will undergo surgery on his right thumb on Friday, January 4. Following the procedure, his thumb will be placed in a splint for approximately six weeks, at which point he will be re-evaluated. Williams will be able to participate in conditioning and restricted weight training during this time period.
http://www.nba.com/jazz/news/mo-williams-undergo-surgery-right-thumb
So there's the bad news we hoped wasn't coming. Six weeks in a splint means closer to two months off the active roster, which makes him expendable in most formats. Now we see if this prompts the Jazz to make some other larger moves. Al Jefferson, Paul Millsap, and MoWill are all expiring contracts.

In a 14 team league. Sitting in first place with a relatively easy schedule for the next 3 weeks. Considering picking up the recently dropped MoWill to stash for an eventual playoff run. My team is lacking PGs. Any thoughts?

Was just about to post the same link: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/blogsjazznotes/55591308-62/williams-thumb-suffered-surgery.html.csp
While Williams has commonly been said to be out a minimum of six weeks, the reality could be much harsher. He will have a pin removed from his thumb after six weeks, which is when "the rehab really starts," he said. "I'm going to fight to get back," Williams said. "I'm going to go by the proper protocol, try to do it the right way and make sure I'm 100 percent when I get back." The lone difference between this injury and the one he suffered in 2008, Williams said, was that this time he suffered a small bone chip in the thumb. The primary date to watch, though, is that six week mark, around the All-Star break, when Williams will be reevaluated.
With this update, there's almost no chance that he's back before two months from now. I'll stop short of saying that it's a good idea to stash him - you are going to have to weigh the possibility of reward potential for your own squad.

Does the fact that Utah didnt trade for a PG today bode well for Mo's outlook?
Also since MIL got JJRedick, im thinking Mike Dunleavy's already scant minutes/stats may take a hit (even tho JJ is a different position)
Ive been enjoying Dunleavys 3's and 3% but might it be time to drop Dunleavy and stash MoWill?
My team is playoff bound with hopefully a first round bye.
0% Agree (0 votes) |
Fantasy playoffs should start a week or two after he's back, so he's a reasonable stash for teams who are solidly in the playoffs and not gunning for first place in a tight race (which I am but I picked him up anyway since I drafted him and don't want to see him helping other teams). With a first round bye he's a pretty good stash. The bucks do have a pretty good playoff schedule though, better than the jazz.

If he's looking at default playoffs (Wks 21-23), then it's 4-4-4 for the Jazz and 4-3-4 for the Bucks.

I'd be in favor of dropping Dunleavy for MoWill.

The big Mo Will news today is he still has pain in his thumb. This is not a good thing. While it may or may not affect his very slow return, it is sure not a good sign. U can stash him for now but having a Plan B may be advisable.

Regarding a Plan B, obviously there are no guarantees here. But the chance to roster a starting PG with a 4-4-4 playoff schedule at little-to-no cost is too good to pass up. You can always make another move once the playoffs start.
0% Agree (0 votes) |
Matt,
How about in the case where I already have 4 pgs?
Most of my players are projected pretty well for the playoffs and I don't want to risk losing a player like Calderon for Mo Williams when I'm not sure how Mo Williams will perform when he returns or if he plays all 12 games.
I don't want to give up on my players (elton brand) that provide blocks either so would Tony Allen be worth dropping for Mo Williams or should I just stand pat?

Clearly you aren't dropping Calderon. That's not even a consideration. You are already strong in most areas that MoWill is strong, so it's not a no-brainer. Compare your Team Analysis with Allen and with MoWill and see which you feel more comfortable with.

That's good news. Hope he comes back sooner. As long as he doesn't pull a Kevin Love and comes back firing bricks.

Hasn't been practicing with contact yet, but then there's this, from Saturday:
Williams has not played since Dec. 22, when he tore a ligament in his right thumb against the Heat in Miami. He had two pins removed from the thumb on Feb. 13 in New York City, and has been gradually increasing his role in team practices. He said this week he hopes to play on the team’s upcoming four-game road trip to Milwaukee, Cleveland, Chicago and New York.
http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/jazz/55936845-87/hayward-williams-kanter-lot.html.csp
That four-game trip is this current week (ends Saturday), so I'm not sure how realistic it is.

Only player from Bogut,Bynum,Granger,Rose group which I add it and try to get something from it, 3 weeks until semis in fantasy postseason, no need to hurry Mo (but for Jazz is just oposite, they have 4 awfull spare parts at PG spot).

Mo Williams (thumb) is taking full contact in practice and "would not be surprised" if he played on Wednesday against the Cavs.
That's a little bit of a surprise. Williams said just a few days ago that there was still no target date for his return, but he's apparently been working hard in rehab to get back on the floor. Williams won't play on Monday, but if he's still floating on the waiver wire in your league, now is the time to grab him as his return looks very near. He went through a full contact practice for the first time on Sunday.

During my league's playoffs (21-23), mo will is projected higher than george hill and jose calderon when ease is applied and because he plays more games. If Mo Will performs up to expectations, are george hill or jose calderon worth dropping for him?
My instinct tells me Mo Will is more inefficient (high to's) than both of those players and you shouldn't give up an efficient pg for an inefficient pg when you are not punting. In addition, he's ranked worse if you just look at per game value.
Would you agree Matt?

Don't you think dropping Elton Brand would be a better idea?

I would agree Brand is the player to drop but it seems you already have a massive excess of 3PM already. I'm guessing you win that fairly easily as is.
I can't imagine a drop of Calderon in 12x13 right now.

If I drop Brand, I'm throwing in the towel on blocks altogether and I could run into days where I can't don't have enough c's to fill the c slot.

Is that a problem? This is H2H, 5 cats is just as good as 9 cats when it comes to playoffs.

good point. if i'm never winning in blocks, no point trying to shore it up.
