Got pick #2 in a 12 team, 9 cat draft. Think my first pick is pretty darn easy choice (whoever doesnt go #1), but in rd 3 I am looking to grab a PG. Thinking Curry and Jennings will both be there (ESPN ranks Curry at 44, which might be enough to keep him on the board for my 26th pick).

So it's kinda clear the deal with these two...Curry has a touch better upside (especially with FG%), Jennings is safer.

Who would you go with?

I would grab Jennings easy if those are ur choices. Just from the health standpoint. Who are u looking at in the second round?

A big... Horford most likely, although it would be nice is Cousins dropped (cousins is 15th in ESPN rankings, so I am not holding my breath that he will last until 23rd.). I got it Horford/Pau/marc  as the order for bigs at that point that could be on the board that I would be interested in.

Another wrinkle for me is if Lawson somehow drops to 23rd, that would make it a tough call, but I almost still lean towards Curry or jennings over lawson

I have a feeling that Durant will be the guy I get with the second pick... and he is an interesting pick...it almost seems that with him, it's best to punt asts. I don't particularly want Nash this year, nor do I want to take a chance on Dragic, so punting asts almost seems like the course of action to go with KD.

That is just me thinking outloud of course... because KD is so good at everything except TO's, that it would also be a shame to punt ANYTHING with him,

Lawson at 23 would be a huge steal. He would also be a great fit with LBJ or Durant. Third round Ibaka would then set u up for a competitive team in all 9 cats. At 4th and 5th round u can decide which cats to strengthen with the available players.

Hailfire...i thought about Ibaka, but then I thought that I am going to have a strong shot at anthony davis in 4/5, and davis is appearing like a serge ibaka type anyways. If I dont get ibaka or davis, then shoot for a late round pick of Deandre Jordan for blks, and have Durant to help cover for Jordan's FT%. ( I plan on being careful with ft% with all picks, so if I need Jordan, I should be more then ok to cover his fault).

But anyhow, might as well go for a more rounded big (horford/gasol vs ibaka) and a small in the 2/3 turn, and shoot for heavy blks guy (like davis) afterwards.

I agree, with Durant (or James) it doesn't make sense to punt anything, just grab the best players available with your 2-3 picks and worry about categories in rounds 4-5.  Lawson or Cousins should be gone by that time.  I like Gasol slightly better than Horford, and Jennings slightly better than Curry.  These two picks are going to make you or break you, so I'd try to avoid injury risks there.

and you know Hailfire...at first I thought lawson would be a huge steal if he dropped..but then I compared him to curry and jennings...lets forget currys ankles for a moment...

Jennings might have a slight SLIGHT lead in pts. asts is almost a wash, with slight lead to lawson. Threes goes to curry/jennings. Stls goes slightly to curry/jennings. Ft to curry, with Jennings/Lawson tied. FG is curry/lawson.

So basically, if you ignore his ankle, curry is slight favorite, and then its a choice between higher FG% with lawson, or higher threes/stls with jennings.

Because I DONT want to ignore curry's ankles, and the fact that durant is not a beast in stls, and has strong FG%, I am currently leaning towards Jennings, and using durants fg to cover jennings FG. Plus with horford (or any other big) I should still be keeping that stat strong. BUT, that is just my early thoughts...i reserve the right to flip flop

That is what I am thinking cap.... perhaps curry has a slightly higher upside then jennings, but jennings is pretty damn good in fantasy, plus its a contract year. Rather play it safe then go for the slight upside. But that is also why I go with Horford over gasol (if you are referring to Pau). We know exactly what we are getting from horford, except with some upside due to Johnson being gone and a new coach for him. Pau SHOULD be alright, but with howard being howard, I see more of a risk for gasol. Could easily see a hit in rbs, blks AND pts.

Yeah, sorry, ankle soreness in his first actual organized basketball game is NOT something to take lightly with Curry.  Normally with seemingly minor injuries at this point in early preseason I'm all about not reading too much into things, but in this case I'm fine making an exception and reading plenty into it.

Curry didn't get a full complement of minutes in his first game back after undergoing ankle surgery last April, indicating his wind isn't quite where it needs to be. Offensively, he acted as more of a facilitator and ball mover, though he did push it on one foray to the hoop in the second quarter. The real test came on the defensive end, where sudden movements put stress on an ankle, and he held up well. "It's a little sore, but that's to be expected. See how it feels tomorrow and then we'll assess Thursday's game. Hopefully I can play a lot more," said Curry.

Tonika...i saw that quote after I posted the previous msg. So it looks like the soreness is not that big of a deal...but as DC said... Curry + ANY type of issue with his ankles = me taking Jennings in rd 3:)

Picked Steph yesterday in my league but knowingly I'm wrong bc of it, "just" wanted to pair him with CP3cool,

Jennings all the way b4 Curry, health is main issue but if you willing to gamble then is ok to go with Curry.

Im having a similar issue right now. Got #3 pick in a 12 team league so the only probable place to get curry would be either 22nd or 27th pick, he won't last until 46th. Dunno if I can stomach drafting him 2nd/3rd round though, last year I got burned drafting him 1st round (leaving Love on the board) cry

I am adding Dragic into this question...

curry vs jennings vs dragic.

I would certainly pick Dragic. The Phoenix Suns is a point guard dominant team with no-one that could handle the ball like Dragic. (Maybe with the exception of Kendall Marshall). You would still have to consider Monta Ellis in this conversation as he is as ball dominant as jennings is. And I wouldn't bet on Steph Curry's ankles even though if hes healthy all year long and could be a top10 fantasy player. I would say try go for ibaka in second round and pick up batum/rudy gay/paul george in third round and then pick up someone like lowry/jrue holiday/jeff teague in the later rounds.

I'll take Jennings over Dragic without feeling bad. As much as don't like his real-life game Jennings has proved himself to be a relaible fantasy option, even with Ellis in the mix. There a lot to like about Dragic, but he comes with some hefty caveats as well. Dragic had some career highs last year in a bunch of statistical areas that pump his value, and unless he keeps all of those up he's not really in the conversation here. Example one, his outlier FT% - last season was a massive bump over his career numbers, and a falloff even to .780 cuts his value a lot. I also worry a little bit about his Ast since his Ast% took a huge jump last year as well. That's quite possibly just a function of his developing skill set, but it also might slide back a little.

Overall I think Jennings is the safer choice.

Curry is a different kettle of fish entirely. If Curry is healthy he'll out-produce Jennings easily. But the healthy part isa real issue. Curry's injury history is sordid enough that I think I'll leave that headache to someone else.

Also note that Jennings biggest downfall so far has been his FG%. Ever since Ellis has come to town, Jennings FG% has gone up. Obviously a small sample size from the tail end of last season...but so far in preseason that trend has continued. Obviously, we shouldnt put a lot of stock in pre season numbers, but still, I am feeling optamistic that Jennings can get above 44% fg for the year, which would be very nice.
