Somebody tell me what to expect form General Greivis this year.  I have tried a couple of mock drafts where I wait on PG and he keeps ending up on my teams.  Is he gonna be the starter for the Hornets all year or will he slowly be moved aside for some of the younger guys?

Any thoughts?

I expect him to start all season because I do not expect Rivers to be ready to play full-time PG at any point as a rookie. Even if you think that is not the case, how many games do you expect Eric Gordon to play? I don't mind Vasquez as a later pick but don't see his ceiling as being particularly high, given his expected offensive output. Could he end up as a late bloomer? It's not out of the realm of possibility.

I'm higher on Vasquez than most.  Basically I'll take him in the 12-13th hoping for some upside.  The main reasons being:

  • He's pretty set with playing time.
  • He's one of the highest assist players you can draft late.
  • He has more weapons to distribute to this year.
  • He still is young, and as a 3rd year player, you see the most growth in players in the transition from their 2nd to 3rd year.

I'm not expecting anything special, but if there's a 20% chance the guy can deliver 8th-9th round value as a PG in the 12th-13th round I'll take that chance.

His mock ADP is 94 and his Y! rank is 123, so I'm not sure where you should be expecting to find him waiting for you in Rd 12-13.

That's right Buser. In the few mocks where I got him I took him around pick 95-100.  He generally doesn't last much past that, because at that point anybody who is needing assists is in scramble mode.

Surely if he starts all year he will produce higher than where he is being picked. Right?

Lol, damn, your right.  That's the problem with doing the yahoo mocks sometimes.  I just did a mock earlier today and got him in the 12th round, where I definitely wouldn't mind him.  There are soo many great options at 94 I wouldn't pick him there.

Rivers has been injured.  It looks like Vasquez deserves a bump for his projected stats.

Easily one of the most underrated players in drafts this year.

One of the most underrated Cap? Vasquez was a trainwreck for the majority of the preseason. It was made abundantly clear that w/o another major playmaker on the floor, this guy will struggle in the decision making department. His limited upside really hinges on Eric Gordon's health. He plays and the reduced pressure on Vasquez will make his overall line more appealing.

I did bump up his AST projection a bit, having Anderson and Davis at his disposal will help that, but his ceiling is limited because of just about everything else.

If Vasquez didn't lead the preseason in assists this year I don't know who did, and with Rivers' and Gordon's injury woes he's got a pretty good shot at a healthy amount of minutes all year long, so yeah, considering there aren't many starting PGs that can get you 10+ assists on any given night past the 10th round I'd say he's a pretty good value pick where he's being drafted.  As a starter last year he averaged 12 PTS, 3 REB, 7 AST, 1.1 STL, and 0.8 THR, and +85% from the line, and with a full training camp under his belt, little to no competition this year, an extra offseason of development, and the ROY at his disposal, how can you not expect those numbers to rise?

how can you not expect those numbers to rise?

Simple - watch him play. He doesn't have the talent to make any jump on those numbers. Moreover, many fans close to the situation feel those numbers were a bit of an aberration. Fact is, he's a below average shooter and defender. Now many are quesioning his decision making (averaged 4.2 TO's in 26 min's per this preseason). Lastly, there are rumor floating about Demps is trying to make one more deal before the start of the season. My guess would be PG help.

Not to make an example of this thread, but this is one of the biggest problems managers make in fantasy. Give me almost any late possible draft pick and I'll turn him into a sleeper by cherrypicking data and/or info.

Please correct Greivis stat line versus Utah on 11/2/2012. He officially scored 13 points NOT 11 he hit the game winner. Double check nba.com for official stats.

Thanks for the correction. Monty Williams believes in Vasquez and gave him the green light to hit that game winner. It was a designed play for him to hit that sweeping runner off a screen. I wouldn't be suprised if the General averages around 9 assists this year.
