What are your thoughts on Lopez?
I know it's preseason, but Brooke (as my league likes to call him) has been rebounding at a better clip lately. In 2008 to 2010, he averaged 8 rebounds before becoming allergic to rebounding in 2011.
Think he'll bounce back and average 8 rebs a game or will he consistently be mediocre on the boards due to a loaded Nets team? 0% Agree (0 votes) |
I think he could be a great value. His yahoo ADP is 76.1 right now.........if he can rebound just a little better than he did his last healthy season he could far outperform a 6th round pick. People might be turned off by his injury from last year, but in his three previous seasons he played all 82 games--so I can't label him as injury-prone just yet.
I'll be curious how he plays with Joe Johnson, Gerald Wallace, and Deron Williams dominating the offense. Lopez's scoring will go down but his FG% will most likely go up. I'm not going to reach too early for him but I think he is better than his ADP assumes.

I'm buying in and probably spending an early 5th round (12 team) pick on him. I'm thinking 18 and 8 with 1.5 blocks and very good percentages for a big man is in order this season. I think that puts him in top 40-50 value in 8 cat leagues.

I drafted him last year, and so watched him carefully. In his brief return last year he was a monster, so I had my eye on him in the pre-season. I am going to go way out on a limb and say he is going to play as good or better during the regular season, provided he stays healthy. I put my money where my mouth is and drafted him at a good price.
Can anyone say why he won't flirt with 20 and 10?

He won't flirth with 10 because Kris Humphries is one of the best in the league at reb%. I'm always amazed that nobody draws the comparison between Lopez's decline in rebounds and Humphries lining up beside him and boarding like a maniac. And keep in mind that Hump has had stellar reb% rates over his entire career, so it's not just about Lopez giving him the opportunities.

Agree with the psychic... i dont see 10 for brook, but right now I see 8. As for mbusers point...agreed that Hump ate into brooks rebounds, but with the nets back ups, I can see humps minutes dip. If so, that might help brook climb back to the 8 range. Blatche and that european player do not seem to be as strong at the boards as hump.
In the projections, Brook is pretty low in the boards still. After the preseason, perhaps even 7.5 might be pretty realistic?

Agree with Buse, don't know why more ppl don't make the rebounding connection between Humps and BroLo.
My conclusion is Humps' value is going to take the biggest hit (out of the starting 5), down from the last 2 yrs where he was hyper-efficient in FG% & REB. Now he's solidly sandwiched between a finally healthy BroLo and GWall (who willingly throws his body around to chase down anything).
Coach has already hinted he wants more toughness out of the PF spot, bad for Humps with Blatche already looming in the background w/ a monster preseason.

In '10-'11 Brook wasn't in any position to board the ball. The moment another team took a jumper, he was running down the court looking for fast break opportunities. Lost my voice a few times at the Pru Center screaming at him not to do that.

The Nets released a statement from team orthopedic surgeon Riley Williams III on Friday morning, offering more clarity on the condition of Brook Lopez's right foot, which he sprained in Wednesday's win in Boston. "Area of Brook's previous fracture was unremarkable & unchanged," the doctor said in the statement. Avery Johnson said at shootaround in Orlando that Lopez is "out of the woods" in regard to the injury being serious. Lopez, who will be reevaluated in New York on Monday, says he's already feeling better.

Blatche has been putting up big numbers during Brook's absence....danger to BroLo's minutes or Humphries when Lopez comes back?

Numbers in three straight losses.. Humphries has been in danger since the season started, but Brook isn't going to be losing PT to Blatche. Crazier things have happened, though, I guess.

Is he on some sort of minute restriction? Obviously not today
Don't understand why he gets only 30mpg given he's probably their best player this year. 0% Agree (0 votes) |

I don't think caution with BroLo's workload during the regular season is a terrible idea, given that he missed the vast majority of 11-12 and time earlier in the current season. The team has been content to get Blatche out there for ~18 mpg at center and he's been a very pleasant surprise for them on the court.
