The guy has put up some good numbers towards the end of the season..there aren't any clear cut competition for him at the PF/C..and now he's shooting 3's..is it time? 67% Agree (3 votes) |

Bigs that shoot around 43% FG need to do a heck of lot otherwise to make up for it, but 7 threes in two games is obviously notable.

 | Cap. (518 posts) 10/10/2012 12:17 AM | I dont think weve even begun to see what kind of player bj mullens is going to be, so im not putting too much stock in his past season(s). hes had some really good games here and there, in the nba and overseas, so i think hes got some pretty nice upside for the pennies you can get him for. i wouldnt be surprised if he somehow emerged as a waiver wire goldmine type of player early on, assuming hes healthy. 0% Agree (0 votes) |
 | yryen (4 posts) 10/10/2012 9:41 AM |
With him starting to shoot some 3's but does not stand out in terms of blocks or boards for a big, I think he will have value like Mehmet Okur from few years back (which was 75th overall for 07-08, 44th in 08-09 for 8 cat [61 and 36 for 9 cat]). He is definitely on my sleeper list.
0% Agree (0 votes) |
I think he's definitely worth a late rd flier considering he has been a starter and draining 3's in the preseason. He actually had a few monster games down the stretch last season but was overall inconsistent. If given around 30MPG, he should be able to average 7 REB and 1 BLK too. He's only 23 and I see no reason why he won't be given every opportunity to play and produce on this rebuilding CHA team.

I was going to ask this same question to the group. Mullens is a free agent in most leagues i've joined in and are already set-up. The Bobcats frontcourt and minutes-distribution has been very interesting. I'd like to see if new coaching staff will maximize Tyrus Thomas, Haywood and Biyombo, but it looks like Mullens will get a lot of burn going forward. Off-topic, MKG's numbers has not been good. I was expecting more hustle stats from him based from his Summer League performance, but it may have been an aberration, or if it's still too early to tell.
I'd keep an eye on how the CHA frontline situation pans out. Same thing with UTA (forwards), POR and CLE (for the swingmen). ORL (for the whole team )
0% Agree (0 votes) |
Haven't we been waiting for Tyrus to pan out for the past 5 seasons? That guy is a complete bust. Haywood is now 32 and should slot in for around 20MPG. Mullens and Biyombo are potentially the future at PF/C for CHA and I really can't see the new coach Dunlap wasting too many minutes on Tyrus/Haywood/Diop. At least 30MPG should be there for both Mullens and Biyombo if they can handle it and perform.

He hit another 3 threes vs the Hornets. Don't you think its time to start upping his 3's projections? Maybe 1.5 per game or something?

so for sure the bobcats will want at least 1 shot blocker on the floor at all times..wether it be bimbo, tyrus or haywood..and since none of those guys have any off ability at all...BJ is set to get all the frontcourt shot attempts...sure he probably won't shoot a nice %..but when given the mins he's shown the ability to rebound around 7-8reb per game which isn't horrible nowadays...my main question is will his 3pt shooting attempts put him out of position to get rebounds..and will someone else increased off role in the guard positions make BJ's shooting unnecessary...

Mullens is already a poor offensive rebounder to begin with, so I wouldn't sweat that much. Assuming Kemba-Hendo-MKG-Mullens-Haywood/Biyombo is the starting five, he is essentially the lone three-point threat and can/will clear out for the slashers.

He just made 14 treys in his 4 preseason games. WOW

With this latest performance, 2 treys per game is looking realistic then.

Where should u draft BM in 9 cat roto 12 man league? I think ceiling top 50, bottom 100, likely 75? Draft 8-9th round? Steal at 10th?

Given that his Yahoo O rank is 226, he's going 140 on Yahoo, and mocks are 163, not sure you need to spend anything more than an 11th on him. However given that he has broken out in the preaseason, he may be inching his way up, though I don't know.

yeah no worries about getting him til like 11 or 12..unless u really want him..but i think there are better players in the 11th ....

Hakim Warrick sounds unpromising. Bismack Biyombo doesn't impress me yet.

The order of Charlotte big men is going to be Biyombo... Warrick... ... ...Haywood. I took a chance on Hakim in a really deep league, but there's probably better options available in standard leagues. If I can get say 11/7/1 out of him in the short term I will be more than happy.

We'll probably see them run small with a bit more frequency, as well, with MKG stepping in at PF.

I picked him up off waivers today. Is he still worth a stash now that we know he's out for a month? There is really nobody better on waivers currently, and I'm sitting undefeated in first place (7-0-1), and although it could cost me a win in some weeks having one less eligible player (my league is h2h), is he worth hanging onto for a month sitting on my bench?

I really wish Mike Dunlap was more specific than that. At least a ballpark figure, doesn't have to be 100% accurate. But, what the heck does a "long ways away" mean? That could mean a lot of different things for different people. Does that mean another month? A few more weeks? How should I interpret that?
I've already hung onto Mullens for a month since he got injured. Do I drop him now after investing all that time or do I hang on?

You should have dropped Mullen the second he got injured. It's too bad you've invested all this time, but the sooner you drop him now, the better off you'll be. It was a pretty rough injury, even when he gets back, he likely won't be half the player he was.

Well in all fairness, I'm sitting comfortably in first place in my league, all but guaranteed at worst the #2 seed in the playoffs. So I have the luxury of being able to stash a player or two without worry of repurcussions (it's a h2h league).
Since the moment I've stashed Mullens, I've only lost one matchup, so the cost of holding onto Mullens is not a big deal to me. But, I'm wondering if I'm better off stashing someone like Kevin Love for his upside instead of wasting a spot hanging onto Mullens.
I assumed Mullens was going to be out for up to the end of this month, so I didn't think it was that long of a wait. If this "long ways away" means another month, it just doesn't seem like it's worth it. On the other hand, there really aren't much options on the current waiver wire at this moment (except for maybe Love - but he's not guarantee to come back at all this year or at least in time to help me for the playoffs)

We've bumped him to out through the ASB. Mullens is firingey, he wasn't exactly killing it but can be useful if you can handle the FG%. Love is a real coin-toss, but it sounds like you are also in a position to gamble on the possibility of a return.

I don't want to get overly excited, as this is only what he himself said, but he could be making his return on the upcoming 5-game road trip.
Crossing my fingers.
