I feel that he could be real good with cavs this year. Jamison left and i dont see anybody compete with his minutes. Just wondering why he is not a value pick and not even ranked on BBM and so low on Y!. Does anybody see him as a sleep and what are his projections like?

Not sure what you mean by "not even ranked on BBM" but any of his by-the-numbers rankings are going to be qualified with his substantial hit to the FT% category. (-1.87 in just 24 minutes in 11-12). Plus he shot just 44% and turned the ball over at a high rate. I do like him to make strides this season in terms of big-man stats, and playing with Kyrie and alongside Andy V are going to help that, but he's no sure thing.

Unpolished offensive game, bad FG% for a big man, terrible FT%, he doesn't block particularly well.  He really has no redeeming qualities for fantasy except that he might get you some rebounds.

Now these are all based on how he did last year and he could break out, but he hasn't yet shown that.  When he got a starting gig late last year, he responded with 10 points and 7.5 boards in about 29 minutes - but with the same negatives mentioned above.

man i love the way you guys see the game. i just figure that for my last pick in the draft i could take a chance on him. i have him, ayon, splitter, parsons as my late sleepers.

If you are looking for rebounds and block guys late in the draft, there is a big chance he will still be available. But yeah, I find his stats kinda weird especially the percentages, but nonetheless he's a lock to start.

I think he has a good chance to be more valuable than people think.  If you just look at his starter split stats they aren't particularly impressive..............but if you go through his game log and check every game he played 29 minutes or more he has some very nice lines, averaging 12.9 points, 9.5 rebounds (5.1 off) and 1.6 blocks in those 15 games.  I see him playing around 32 minutes this year and will be targeting him late.  His yahoo ADP is 139.

Yah, I was high on him before the pre-season started as a last round flyer. I was hoping that having Varejao at the C, and sliding Tristan over to PF, would help him not deal with the bigger and stronger bodies playing C. But, the preseason has seen so much fluctuation of the starting 5, it's hard to get much of a read on him.

I'll hold on to him for a couple games, but my leash on him will be short.

Notable stat from 11-12: Thompson shot 50% FG when Kyrie was on the floor (37% of total minutes) and 41% when he was off link

Thanks for this buser! Definitely insightful. Now that Kyrie is healthy, hopefully we'll see more of the 50% Thompson than the 41% Thompson...

In fact I should thank you even more for introducing me to that AWESOME LINK! I just plugged in Thompson and Varejao, and my hope may have more solid ground.

Thompson scored 18.4 pts on 63% with Varejao on the court, while only 12.3 pts on 43% without link.

Cavs invested the 4th pick on this guy last year and cleared Jamison out of the way. He's going to play plenty and he's going to get better. I would only draft as a late round flier on a team punting ft%, but I'm thinking he puts up 13 pts, 9 rebounds, with 2 blocks a game on a regular basis by the end of the year.

Yes, but you're talking about a grand total of 47 minutes the entire season he played with Varejao on the court and 1,376 minutes he played with Varejao off the court.  Not sure 47 minutes is enough time spent to conclude anything.

He also got to the free throw line 9.2 times per 36 minutes in that 47 minute sample size, and given a 55% FT shooting ability, if you believe those numbers to be indicative of anything, 9.2 free throws per game hitting at 55% will kill you almost as bad as Howard does in FT%.

The small sample is the reason I don't share that link, but there certainly aren't good reasons to think playing his natural PF position alongside AV is going to work against him. Signs are pointing up, just be wary of that FT% hit.

there's some news leaking that Scott is considering Tyler Zeller as the starter as well, but I think it's more a motivational ploy.  I think he's got a good chance this year to be good.  But next year will probably be his real breakout year.  I wanted to pick him but someone else took him in the same round that I wanted him, just earlier.
