BBMers..
You sure you are not too high on Pau. I understand Pau is Pau, kinda like Dirk is Dirk (well until this season), but anyway, with Dwight in town, you'd expect Boards to drop off, scoring to drop, and with Nash around, how can you expect Pau to go up from 3 to 4 AST per game. I know Dwight is a presence in the post but still, I think they may drop off.
Do you really think he is mid to late 2nd round? 0% Agree (0 votes) |
Pau didn't seem to struggle next to Bynum, apart from maybe rebounding slightly less. I also think that Nash being in the team will help Pau, give him more looks and gets the ball out of Kobe's hands.

Pau is great at throwing the lob to his frontcourt partner, he'll feed dwight plenty. I can see the assist numbers being real good.

I'd say they're too low on Pau. Look at his projected FGA, FTA, and rebounds. They'll drop a little bit with Dwight in town, but BBM is projecting large drops, which seems extreme.

I think BBM has him 15th in projected value (12 team, 9 cat). I put in some custom projections and have him 10th (not a huge difference). Slightly tweaked up pts, reb, stl, and blk and slightly tweaked down 3ptm, ast, fg%, and to. No proof I'm right of course, but I tend to think Howard vs. Bynum is not such a huge change from the point of view of Gasol's stats (would be different if D12 was replacing a nobody). Dwight has a bit higher usage in terms of FGA/FTA and a bit higher dreb rate (unlikely he'll take much away from Gasol on O-Reb), but not so dramatic and that shouldn't all come out of Gasol.
Flipside is that with Nash you can make an argument for him getting more good looks and I can't help thinking he'll have shaken last season's trade-related malaise - which should be a bit of a boost.

Ignoring everything but the assists portion of this discussion, I definitely see Pau getting more dimes this year. This is the PRINCETON OFFENSE, people. A passing big man is a cornerstone of the system and Pau fits it perfectly. Add in the Nash pick and roll combinations and I expect marked improvement in his assist numbers. You're going to see the same action in this video a ton this season: http://youtu.be/Qr8j9vFwZoc whether it ends with a lob, a kick out or a bounce pass it will end up in a dime for Gasol. Look at how wide open Kobe and MWP are on that play and tell me Gasol won't find one of them if the double doesn't come from the post.
