Suuuuper injury prone, just a matter of time before he's hurting somewhere else. Hope I'm wrong though.

GSW backup center is Festus? They better hope bogut stays healthy. Disclaimer I own Bogut in BOSF and REALLY hope he stays healthy.....

I'm glad i picked up Festus on the wire on our league as a handcuff .I hope Bogut stays healthy coz him and Amare are on my team.

If Bogut is pain-free in shootaround, he'll be a go for the season opener tonight (and be in the starting lineup). Minutes will be limited, but seems likely he'll play.

What should we be doing with this guy in standard leagues? His value while on this minute count is pretty low...
that being said, is his upside worth the stash? Or does his potential for injury make him not worth the stashing? Should he be dropped for a decent FA like say a Kaman or Robin Lopez?

out 7-10 days now. they shouldve never had him start the season in the first place on this 20 mpg limit.
Anyways, whats the consensus on what people are doing with him?

Well, if we want to check out the facts here they are (not counting "great start" of 2012/13 season)
-after rookie season (and all 82 games played) in 6 season after he is missed 150 out of the 476 games (thats like 1/3),
-and if we look last 4 seasons he is missed 130 out of 312 games (42% of the games), and not to mention how many
games has been when is "played" like 4 games from this season...
Rest my case.

I own Bogut in 2 leagues. I have currently shoved him to the bench for the forseeable future. if u have other injury problems I can see a cut for a very good WW guy. As far as we know there is no new injury or setback just nagging soreness from a too soon return. I have a WW claim for Bogut in Toni's league cutting Seraphin. Give it a thumbs up to stay like that or a thumbs down if gee should be the cut.

I think its more valuable as a stream spot. GS has proven they do not take care of their players under any circumstances (See S. Curry)

I'm all for at least a bit of restraint here... it's still early. Settings and what your league-mates have left on the wire need to be considered.

It's 7-10 days. Chill out. We knew he wouldn't be very useful for this next month; it's probably better for the long-term for him to focus only on getting full-health games later than for him to have an extended period of 20-minute games. If you're in a roto league, you wouldn't want to start him for 20-minute games anyway.

Apparently his return will be January 2013. I'm deeply considering a drop.
100% Agree (1 vote) |
Still considering? Well if for someone isnt enough "150 out of the 476 games & 130 out of last 312 games (42%) not played" not counting first 2+ months of 2012/13 then stick with him untill end of season .

Yeah, if he's only out 1-2 more weeks and then he's good to go he's definitely worth a stash. Question is, of course, will he actually be back then and will he be healthy enough to actually do something? If he comes back but is still playing on one leg he isn't going to have much value, as the games he has played have shown. Still, if you've got guys to drop it seems like a decent gamble.
I'm stuck with the waiver dilemma again - think he's worth a #4 priority (dropping Landry) or is it smarter to roll the dice and hope he clears (I bet he doesn't given the name value, but Valanciunas, Seraphin are also out there as potential fallback bigs)?

So some "interesting" new details emerging over the past 12 hours.
As it turns out, Warriors center Andrew Bogut did have microfracture surgery on his left ankle in April. But, according to team sources, it’s not the same as the alarming procedure we learned about through the likes of Penny Hardaway, Chris Webber and Greg Oden. [link]
Bogut said. "I'm not going to play Saturday, and I'm still a ways off. It's an interesting rehab because there's not a timeline for it. Once you get that swelling down, then you're ready to play basketball. But if I engage in strenuous activity for 2-3 days, then my ankle still swells up." .. "It's still sore and it's just not right yet," he said. "When I try to train for extended periods, it just doesn't respond well. Until I can get through a week's worth of full practices, I'm back to where I am now." [link]
He's at least been able to stay in cardio shape, but he's not to the point of putting real stresses on the ankle. I've pushed his return date past Christmas, for now. It makes him much less stash-worthy, particularly for h2h, and as he said, he won't be anywhere near a return until we start hearing reports of his participating in practices. And then we see how he reacts to those practices. And we'll go from there. Yes, toni, you told us so

Remember the Bogut might play in the olympics? Now we find he might not be ready for the NEXT olympics. This guy is one slow healer. The team has apparently put out the week to week, miss 3 games timeline malarkey. When in reality the guy is out for 2012 and prolly even longer. The Warriors traded Monta for a guy who would miss a full calendar year? That GM should be fired. Still I am not a doctor so I give the official prognosis full credence.

GSW turning into New Orleans type of mess when treatmant/handling of the own injured players...
This would not end up well, after all this nonsense do not see him playing at all this season.
"Andrew Bogut (ankle) is now on "indefinite leave," and there is no timetable for his return.
"We don't want to fool anybody, anymore," a very honest Bogut said. "It takes a toll on me personally and on the organization. Let's make it an indefinite leave until I'm ready." The big man said that he thinks he'll be able to play this season, but wouldn't commit to anything. The Warriors were obviously not being fully truthful when giving updates on Bogut, but now we know the full story. At this point, there is no reason to own him in any format."

Warriors GM Bob Myers is "not sure" if Andrew Bogut (ankle) will need additional surgery.
If you're a Warriors fan, we encourage you to read the entire transcript linked below. "I don't think so," Myers said. "I'd be very surprised. but again, I'm not sure. I don't think so. That's the best I can tell you." Myers admitted to making a mistake in misleading Warriors fans about Bogut's timetable, but it's not going to make fans or fantasy owners feel any better. "I think he'll play this season," Myers added. "Beyond that, I'll leave it at when Andrew's ready and the doctors say he's ready to go, he'll play.
Yeah, I'm believer, after another disaster in 2012/13 just wait 2013/14 preseason talk to start how he is worth it to be taken never the less with this season he will end up with 40-50% missed games in last 5 yrs.

We should call you Negative Toni, haha. I too am skeptical of players and typically tend to avoid injury prone players, but I will tell you this; At least one of these guys will come back and have a big impact. Whether it be Eric Gordon, Andrew Bynum, Derrick Rose, Amare, Danny Granger, or whoever. Somebody will come back from their injury and surprise us all, I can guarantee it. I've been the guy that scoffed at managers who'd pick up an injured star only to regret not having picked them up myself. The point is that these guys, although injured, have much more upside over someone like Mike Dunleavy, making it worth the risk if you have the roster space.
0% Agree (0 votes) |
Nobody in HTH has an "extra" roster spot for an indefinite out guy. Stream the spot if there is nobody worth keeping at least. U can be sure that Bogut Gordon, Rose, Granger, Wall WILL get zeroes for the rest of the year. That is an assurity. The only real time to pick up crips is right before they actually play. Otherwise play DUnleavy or Moutte or whomever u like each day. The surprise won't be that one guy did return and play well. the surprise will be the other 5 guys didn't. I call it "Criptonite". U pick 1 guy, roster him, and hope u get good news before u slide in the standings.

An update on Andrew Bogut's health is not expected any time soon.
Beat writer Marcus Thompson said there has been "no news" and "don't expect any soon." The Warriors have been dishonest about Bogut's progress from his ankle injury, and it appears the franchise will once again keep Bogut's health clandestine.

Q: What is the latest with Andrew? You guys have been reluctant to put any new timelines on his situation, but what can you share there?
A: Well, we've elected to take – and Andrew has to – to take a very quiet approach here, to just not say a lot. It's clearly by design. I think it's the right thing to do, to let him – without any pressure – work hard to make sure that he's 100 percent when he comes back, and we have the luxury of doing that since we've been playing well. I think, honestly, we're trying not to create any expectations externally, and we're trying not to create any expectations internally. When he's ready, he's ready. There's no pressure on him. We've told him repeatedly – no pressure whatsoever to come back by a certain date. You tell us when you're ready, and you feel great. Everything I hear is that he's coming along really well and that he's getting much closer.

Regarding vnmslsrbms's post under Recent Player Comments: "Not cleared for practice yet. If he gets cleared next week then could play end of January. Minutes ramped up slowly thereafter."
Is there any report backing this "if he gets cleared next week" stuff, or is he just spitballing?

My fault b1gdoublezero. I actually meant that for granger. Bogut is hard to gauge cuz ou don't even know how his ankles will react. Plus the recent trend of organizations keeping silent (acting alot like banks now) makes it even harder. I'm guessing since he walked through shoot around they are getting him ready for play. 3 weeks out would be a 50 pct bet I think.

Time to stash? notes say that he ran full speed sprints. I'm not sure how close that means he is but if its only his ankle, I imagine he doesn't need to do much more. However, stupid warriors still refuse to give any type of concrete answer. 100% Agree (1 vote) |
They don't want to rush or put pressure on Bogut but I think he is definitely close this time. Probably might practice next week.

Timing-wise, it's hard to see a good opportunity to bring him back before the ASB. Let's say he needs 2 weeks or so of practice time, the Warriors have two road b2bs in eary February (5-6, 8-9) and then a single home game (Feb 12) before the break. Whether or not you should stash would be affected by your roster and settings.

Warriors aren't giving a timeline for Andrew Bogut's return but they're making a concerted effort to showcase his improvement. The Warriors could have him work out before games at just about any time, and it would make sense to have him work out early when the bench unit gets in their work, but Bogut is going through his shooting routine after 6 pm, when the building opens to fans. For what it's worth, he shot running jumpers before Wednesday's game, far more activity than the stand-still jumpers he had been taking, and looked comfortable doing it. The lift on his jump also would suggest reports that he has been dunking in practice are legitimate. Based on how he looks and his desire to at least get in a couple of weeks of scrimmaging in practice before he plays a game, an appearance right before or after the All-Star break seems the likeliest scenario as of right now.

When the Warriors tip off Monday night, don't be surprised if a 7-foot-1 Australian is on the court. Warriors starting center Andrew Bogut is aiming at coming back Monday night in Toronto. It will all depend on how he feels after pregame warmups. But multiple sources said Bogut is planning to give it ago.

Has he even practiced yet? This feels like opening night all over again in my opinion. Wish I would of stashed him though. Choose Bynum instead

jacer - in a word, yes.
nola - everything has been hush-hush so it's hard to say to what extent he's been working out with the team. My guess is those details will emerge in the coming days.

Bummer, Bogs was only a FA in 2 of my 9 leagues. I hadn't kept close tabs on him, but was surprised he was still being stashed in that many leagues.

What's the threshold for players to drop for Bogut? Do I drop Avery Bradley?

The lines for Bradley and Bogut couldn't get much different. Team needs have no say in whether or not one makes more sense for you than the other?

I'm in 1st, so they are purely stashes at this point.

Well, they still affect your team stats differently at that point... I guess if all you care about is the playoffs then Bradley (4-4-4) qualifies as better than Bogut (3-3-3).

Do you think he's worth adding to a bench spot on a roto team and dropping Amir Johnson or Bynum?

 | dasein (624 posts) 1/28/2013 7:59 PM |
I wouldn't drop Bynum for him at this stage. Near identical risk profile but much less value.
And I'd rather ride out Amir while he's starting than drop him for Bogut, but then I'm just not that high on Bogie. Remember that Bogut is no better than a mid-round value guy in 9-cat when healthy. Amir is giving you that value (or better) now and might keep his minutes the rest of the way too- who knows.

Good points - it was more Amir Johnson I was considering dropping - Bogut's upside in blocks is very tempting - 4 tonight so far...

30+ min for Andrew Grey? Well, given that Bogut got 24mpg straight of the bat and put up numbers...and given that Amir only got 24 of the bench tonight without Valunciunius or Bargiani in costume, I wouldn't fault you for swapping them Kiwi.

Bogut was dropped the other day in my league after the news that he would be out for another month.
Is it worth using my #5 waiver spot to pick him up? He comes off waivers on 1/30/13 and I know at least one person behind me on the waiver list will try to pick him up. It took me all year to get to 5th waiver spot from 10, 1-4 have not made many moves at all this year (none for waiver claims at least). I could use Bogut and at the very least it opens up more trade options for me.
The latest update is that he will play 24-25 mpg and no back-to-backs until after the all-star break.

Bogut said in the postgame interview that he was pretty sure playing back-to-backs would be out of the question until the all-star break, so don't expect him to play tomorrow against Cleveland. Warriors also have a pair of back-to-backs next week, so that would turn the 4-game week into a two-gamer if Bogut was right.

All I have to say is that Bogut looked great, 100% healthy. He put up impressive numbers in limited minutes and will be able to help your fantasy team the rest of the year, without a doubt (If he stays healthy) and I think he just might.

130 missed games of last 312 from 2009 thru 2012 and not to count half the current season and all of sudden he will stay healthy, yeah, keep believing .

Always good to know how things look from the pessimistic point of view, its fine since its possible.
We heard the negative winds blow on Ersan earlier this season and on many other players...some of these predictions were wrong and some were right...
All I know is that one cannot make such definite judgment on players value in fantasy, without the context of format and team needs.
0% Agree (0 votes) |
Ersan situation has been based bc of idiot coach and lack of PT, when we talk about injuries thru all career of someone thats something else.
When someone miss 40%-45% of his games thru 4,5 yrs span thats not pesimistic view of mine, thats just a fact.

does that mean he's played 60 - 70% of his games over the 4-5yr span?

Yes, but also count in that 55%,60% bunch of games with 10,15,20 minutes ones. If anyone is happy with all that then aussie is yours fantasy guy.

He's averaged more than 30 minutes a game every year since his rookie season, so I wouldn't say low minute games have been inflating his games played too much.
0% Agree (0 votes) |
30 (23%) out of 130 played games in that span of time he played 25min and less.
100 games in 4 yrs with significant minutes played if works for someone thats just fine. No objections for that.
P.S.dont want still to count this year with all that, when everything set and done then will do, he is very close (if not more) with 50% missed when current season is included.
0% Agree (0 votes) |
Even if he is injury prone (which he absolutely is), I don't see an issue with picking him up off waivers. If he gets injured again just drop him no big loss. If we're talking about the draft then sure you absolutely avoid injury prone guys but for midseason pickups? absolutely worth it. Even if you get 10 good games out of him thats still value, just don't stash him for 2 months
100% Agree (2 votes) |
You, agree with you KK. No harm with FA pickup costing nothing and then drop after that if need it (which in most case it is with him).

At least almost all Bogut owners got him for free off the WW. Very little invested and very little return is likely. Seems to be a bust of a stash. I will give him a few more days but that is more because of a weak WW than faith in Bogut's health.

And GSW goes 3-3-3 in the default playoffs, that makes it easier to drop him.

Well, I will not say "I told you so" but just want to say:when you look at facts and call it base on them thats not "negative Nelie" or whatever- thats comon sense & logic. 3 months of waiting, debating, sugesting that criple is not worth it, for what? For 8 games with 23,25,24,24,27,26,15 & 29 minutes played?? Good job trading Monta for one big nothing.
And have no doubt, next year talk will be again:its this is "The Year"?
200 missed games out of 394 in last 5 seasons, and from 194 he is played= 100+ has been with 25minutes and less.

You are so wrong Das, you can look at my posts thru all season (and also before), group of 5-7 players are mentioned from me that are not worth it time, risk and thoughts bc of they injury history (Bynum, Bogut, EGordon, NeNe,Lowry,Granger,Bargs), thats 7 players from 200-250.

Besides with thad, Drummy, and Granger out, someone has to return soon. thad and Granger sound soon but I really need them to play and not talk about playing.

In some cases, health is a skill and not random. When a player has Bogut's history, you have to view him as a chronic health risk and not just unlucky.

Bogut has never been a miss one week kinda guy. He is a malingering fool. Bogut has a hangnail that might get infected? Hello miss a month... or more. U guys remember Rich Harden from baseball? Bogut is the only player who can match him, for play a week miss a month, consistency.

I play in two leagues this season and the only injury prone player I drafted was Bogut. Never again... The lesson I learnt is that all the guys that drafted injured players had trouble this year : honestly, is anyone with Love, Dirk, Bynum or Granger is doing fine this season ? May be if you drafted them in late rounds but these names never last long in the draft usually.
In my roto league :
Bynum $90 (out of $500)
Dirk $65
Love $160
Granger $41
Bogut $18 that's me but that's still expensive if you ask me

Guess we never really discussed this, but do we abandon ship on Bogut in all leagues? I had picked him up in one H2H that allows 10 moves per week, and don't think he is worth taking up a spot that I could be cycling guys onto my team with at this point. His potential for the rest of the year seems dim-even if he plays again, I can't imagine him surpassing 15-20 minutes per game.

From a greed standpoint, I hope people in all my leagues keep wasting a bench spot on him. But if u ain't in my leagues then yes he was cuttable when he first relapsed. Just not enuff season left for him to do his typical 4 month rehab. Besides the Warriors lie about what is really wrong with him.

LOL HF, not enouff time for 4month rehab... Just wait oct. of 2013 when all the talk about Bogut,Bynum and Co. start how they finally be healthy & kicking from all cilindars in new season.

At this point I hope we get nothing but beaming reports on Bynum and Bogut in the offseason to lure some weakling in next year's leagues into buying these guys and flushing away another season with them. Certainly won't be me, no matter how what the reports will say and what good value for the risk they may present.

I know very well that KK, drafted Steph in 3 mine most important leagues (h2h), in 2 of them have the lead more than 10 games/points and in 3rd one beeing at 2nd place. Steph haved his problems with that ankles but he cant be compared with Bogut/Bynum types bc with those two its been year, after year in most part of theirs careers and Steph is just at begining of his.

C'mon...you can't tell me that Curry wasn't considered a high injury risk along the same lines as Boggy and Bynum coming into the season. An ADP of 40 when everyone knew he is easily top 10 per-game says otherwise.
When it comes to the draft, it's all about risk/reward. I agree it'd be dumb to burn an early pick on Bynum next year- hell, I thought it was a bad idea this year. But, if he's sitting there in round 12, I'll happily take a flyer.
0% Agree (0 votes) |
No Das, I didnt say that-you didnt understand me, YES, he was/is it great injury risk BUT I just answered to KK that I cant compare him with Bogut/Bynum type of criples=they careers are almost done (in sense they cant play majority of season never again) and Steph's is just starting (his career, ofcourse some risk will be always there).
Thtas all, just responded to KK that I very well know about his point (some teams will win it all with Steph this season) and I'm also not about avoiding ALL injury risk players, just those which have years and years history of missed games (Curry is not in that group).
0% Agree (1 vote) |
One difference between Curry and Bogut/Bynum is that the latter are bigs. Weight increases the stress on load bearing areas (back, knees, feet). NBA history is replete with talented big men breaking down at a relatively early age compared to guards and small forwards.
League depth also factors in to how much risk you might accept on your roster and the use of stashing.
0% Agree (0 votes) |
True TCS but we can always find guards/wing players with those kind of ailment (B.Roy for example)
0% Agree (0 votes) |
Curry's ankles sure as heck played a factor. I got him at 40 in a winner league. Bogut was my 80 pick so that affected him also. bynum was the total bust. the guy was a universal first round pick top 10 in almost every league. Curry will prolly be a first rounder again but will still go second in a lot of leagues. Bogut will be a 12th round flier at bast. bynum might go 50ish with a great offseason. Eric Gordon fits into ur bust profile though.

Reportedly without limitations the rest of the way, but there is no question he is still extremely high risk going forward.
Definitely a guy to avoid in standard leagues, but if you are in a deep format with roster flexibility and in need of rebounds and blocks it may be worth weighing the risk.
