This guy is an absolute beast. I picked him up for a dollar last night. Anyone else think he could end up being the steal of the draft? 0% Agree (0 votes) |
I hope so. He is my lottery ticket in the BOSF competition. I pray that he is not Thabeet the repeat.

Thabeet never played like that in the preseason. This guy looks like STAT out there.

He shows a lot of promise, but I'm hesitate to bite until a bit into the season. If he shows some flashes of solid value then I might consider stashing him

At what point does Detroit start giving Drummond more run? They're horrible. Nothing to lose by seeing what happens with 25-30 minutes per game. Working high/low post with Monroe sounds promising. 100% Agree (3 votes) |

i've stashed, as they are going to be out of the playoff race quite soon.

I'm in a 12 team, 12 man dynasty league. We get to keep one rookie for next season (with rookies incurring an auction type affair next season). Andre seems to have potential dropping 22 points and 8 boards in 20 minutes against OKC. However do you think its better having a JJ or Jason Thompson etc on your bench rather than stashing Drummond?
100% Agree (1 vote) |
Considering dropping ilyasova for Drummond in a 14 team 10 man roster league, 5 player keeper league. Thoughts?
Also considering vucevic for ilyasova. I haven't played ilyasova all season, so I could keep vucevic or Drummond on the bench in hope they break out

unfortunately, it sounds like lawrence frank is going to ease drummond into the playing time i feel he should be getting over maxiell. i will grit my teeth and wait for the unleashing. free andre drummond.

I don't see Frank putting Drummond in the starting lineup until after the All Star Break. Maxiell has been decent so far. A person I would be keeping an eye on is Kyle Singler, the media is already hounding Frank to bring Stuckey off the bench. Singler has been very good off the bench and played very well with the starting unit last night. I picked him up in a couple of leagues to see what happens.

Andre Drummond is about to blow up. Last call to get on board if he hasn't gotten picked up in your league yet.
100% Agree (3 votes) |
He reminds me so much of Favors... Produces steals/blocks in limited minutes, great rebounding rates (especially orebs), and drool worthy per 36 numbers.
I don't know if he's going to get the time this year, but I believe that Drummond is a future fantasy force. Depending on how he finishes the season he will be on my target list for next season, but Im happy to use my last roster spot to stash him for the time being as a FT punter.

Hey Buser,
When do you think Drummond will start or see significant minutes? 0% Agree (0 votes) |
 | mbuser (4335 posts) 12/29/2012 1:12 PM |
The trade deadline is Feb 21, and Maxiell is assumed to be on the move to a contender. I think the way Frank has been deploying Drummond has been good for his acclimation to the NBA game, it seems like he's slowing adding minutes. Maybe by the deadline we see him fully unleashed, but the entire Pistons rotation seems like it is in flux right now.
0% Agree (0 votes) |
In a late breaking story it seems Drummond has a bruised assbone (coccyx) and not a back issue. Give the man a hemmorhoid donut pillow, a few days and he should be good as new. At least while standing

That's funny cause I have been trying exactly that, no one wants to trade in my league though I even tried to undersell them and everyone declined, there's only been 1 trade the whole year. I dont know what to do I am just punting rebounds atm.

@brandonislegend - Hate that. Some owners just really overvalue their players, and then on top of that they want to make sure they are coming out ahead so unless one side really gets screwed a trade is not going down.

the ft impact is death in that category, i want to trade for his other stats but i just can't see him as a player that should be on a roto team that isn't punting free throws

FT is a problem yes, but we're only talking a quater of a season at best and his attempts arn't at Dwight's level, so if you have a Harden or Durant on board (as I do in a couple of leagues where I grabed him) you can probably weather it if you need the blks and boards. But I agree, he is closer to a situational play than an automatic pickup type of guy.

true that it's not dwight bad but according to bbm projections andre has the 2nd worst free throw value in the league -- i would love to get him as a situational play but i don't think i can justify cutting a good PG for him

Drummond is still out. vague descriptions. Since Feb 19 he has been pain free. Yet 5 weeks into his 4-6 week initial timeline nothing official. I have the playoffs coming up next week and don't want to carry any dead weight. A wasted 5 weeks carrying this lump. My luck right after I cut him the Pistons announce his return date. Carrying a stash guy has had horrible results this year. Bogut was the closest thing to a success.

Andre Drummond patient, even if mentally drained, as Detroit Pistons' center rehabs
We've got his return date as March 26, for what it's worth.

Okay so its getting to the end of the bye week. Should I keep holding onto this dude in hopes of getting some produciton in the next two weeks? Top available FAs are Courtney Lee, Aminu, McBob and guys like that.

Time isn't on Andre Drummond's side. With less than a month left in his rookie season, the Pistons center is without a timetable to return. He didn't sound convinced Wednesday that his injured back would heal in time to play in the final 13 games. "Oh, of course," he said, when asked about wanting to return this season. "I don't want to sit out, but if it has to come to that, then that's what it has to come to."

Any word of progress toward tomorrow night here? He is sitting in the FA pool in a league of mine that counts free throws made instead of percentage, so he could be a valuable add if he gets the green light.

Was looking into the numbers for a keeper discussion on another thread, and found that Drummond's numbers are even better than I had thought. If you look at all players under the age of 20 in NBA history, Drummond's per-minute and per-possession numbers are the best in just about every category possible. He leads in PER, ahead of some pretty impressive names, and if you sort by other things you'll find that he also leads in WS/48, in Reb/36, and Blk/36. He's also second in FG%, and most impressively, second in Stl/36, despite being a center.
For example, here's Drummond vs. Dwight vs. Davis as 19-year-old rookies.

Drummond crushes the others in FG%, Rebounds, Steals, and Blocks, and TOs. That's five categories Drummond significantly beats the other guys, with no difference in 3PM and Assists, and only a few points behind to Davis in points. The only category Drummond falls behind them is FT%.
Drummond is so good as a rookie, his performance stands up to the best from any age. Here is this year's stats, age 19 Drummond vs. age 27 Dwight:

Again, Drummond's numbers beat Dwight in just about every category. Dwight scores more points, but that's only because he shoots more FTs, which also has the effect of making his higher FT% nonetheless far more harmful. Drummond's defensive stats are eye-popping, and perhaps most importantly, his TO numbers are very low. With Dwight, one of the biggest dilemmas was that a team built around Dwight (and maybe Griffin too) wouldn't just be punting TOs; it would have high turnovers before you even got started with your guards. With Drummond, you don't have that problem.
I don't think we're giving Drummond the attention he deserves beyond this year. As soon as he gets 30+ mpg, we're looking at the new face of punt-FT% builds. Think prime Ben Wallace with a monster FG% impact.

Yeah, I've seen these kinds of numbers occassionally pop up in my twitter feed this season. The new face of the punt-PTS build, too, with FT% almost always being the secondary punt in that strategy.

Nice post rico381. If only the FT% wasn't so abysmal. It's really tough to take guys like him in a roto-league.
100% Agree (1 vote) |
He has almost 0 offense created by himself. He's in a pretty good spot right now, but I'd put forward the proposition that if he and Dwight swapped roles, he'd be even better on offense for that Lakers team than he is for Detroit.
The main problem for me is finding a viable punt FT% build to put around him. I just don't know whether there are enough players that fit around Drummond to draft a championship H2H team in a competitive league, especially if someone else is building around Dwight or Smith.
Rondo, Holiday, Dragic, Iggy end up being your options, but they're going to be hard to get in almost any situation I can imagine.
At the very least, there is a distinct possibility of getting Drummond a number of rounds later than Dwight, which might facilitate an easier draft, but you don't really want to take punt FT% guards unless you're guaranteed to get Drummond later...
