Kirilenko will return to practice on Monday after taking a leave to attend to a "family matter" 10 days ago. Coach Lionel Hollins had said he did not expect Kirilenko to return to the team after the leave of absence, so this is a bit of a surprising turn of events. Kirilenko added that even though he's back, he probably won't travel for road games for the foreseeable future because of a personal issue with his wife, an issue he said won't be resolved until early-February. The Nets are still looking to trade him and his $3.3 million expiring contract, so he could potentially see some minutes in the near future so the team can showcase him to other teams. If a trade doesn’t materialize, a buyout seems inevitable as Kirilenko doesn't appear set for a significant role within the rotation in any case.

The Nets announced that Kirilenko will not be joining the team for their upcoming two-game road trip due to "personal reasons." This almost certainly has to do with Kirilenko completely falling out of coach Lionel Hollins' rotation as of late, and though beat writer Tim Bontemps said the two sides haven't discussed a buyout yet, it's possible the Nets will try to trade him and his $3.3 million expiring contract. If a trade doesn’t materialize, a buyout seems inevitable as Kirilenko doesn't appear set for a significant role within the rotation in any case. Either way, there's a strong possibility that he has played his last game for the Nets.

Kirilenko was a full participant in Saturday's practice. He took part in the non-contact portions of Thursday's practice and hadn't practiced since Saturday before that due to a tight back, so this is encouraging as he continues to move in the right direction. The real test for him will come on Sunday if he can practice again and string together two in a row. It's tough to have much optimism and confidence with Kirilenko in general though, especially given that he missed 37 games last season as he dealt with back spasms throughout. It doesn't sound like he'll miss any games (yet) due to this instance of back tightness, but it's certainly worth keeping an eye on regardless given his history.

Kirilenko didn't practice on Sunday and will be limited for a week-to-10 days due to tightness in his lower back. This news is particularly troubling, given that it comes after just one practice (Saturday) and that he dealt with back spasms for the whole of the 2013-14 season, missing a total of 37 games. There is some talk that holding him out is mostly precautionary and that he's in much better shape than he was at this point last season, but it's very difficult to have much optimism about the situation as a whole. If Kirilenko was to miss any meaningful time because of this, it would mean more run for Alan Anderson, Mirza Teletovic, and Bojan Bogdanovic at both forward spots.
