Rubio didn't travel with the Timberwolves on their road trip and will be out for their final two games of the trip. Amazing finish to the season, where do you think he gets drafted next year with LaVine back and presumably another round of trade rumours? Would love to keep getting him in rounds 4-6 (61st pick this year), but worried he may no longer be one of fantasy basketball's best kept secrets...

Bc Thibs is also one of those coaches who would not se what is obvious from mile distance untill hits him right in the head a.k.a. injury happens and he deosnt have a choice but play/use Rubio like he should be played/used. That basketball with iso, iso, iso w/o the end is trash one and will got you nowhere, just ask Bulls this year or NYK w Melo last how many yrs, MIN was trash with Wiggins/LaWine 1 on 5 offense in first half of the season or not to mention Harden who will get MVP with team basketball this year compared to his antics 1 on 5 offense in prev yrs.

Best thing for fantasy owners in a potential Rubio to NY deal is a big upgrade in playoff schedule (depending on your league settings, could gain 2 games during the playoffs).

The reason of a PG for PG swap, so I've heard at least, is that Minn wants to eventually pass the reigns to Dunn, but he's not ready yet. So the thought process is that the replacement will be the starting PG for a next little bit, while accepting that Dunn will be the future starting PG. Whereas with Rubio now, there's no way Dunn will be starting with Rubio off the bench.

It doesn't make sense for MINN to trade a PG for PG. No way they get a scoring PG with Wiggins and Towns in town. LaVine Wiggins Towns all aren't going anywhere. Trade PG for a PF then? Dieng is playing well and there's Bjelica. So Rubio getting traded makes no sense whatsoever. Thib also doesn't like to play rookies; he already doesn't like to play the 5th pick Dunn, what other "young player" would come in and get minutes? Rubio's staying put.

Most likely the trade never happens. But would have to think it benefits Jackson just because he would see more minutes playing for Thibs

What do we make of the Rubio for RJax trade rumor? I can't make sense of it for either team really. DET spacing killed harder with Rubio and Drummond, RJax seems like a wonky fit in Min. Thibs will hate his D and a lot of single dimensionality between wiggins and Rjax...plus weird for Dunn? Obviously just a rumor...but hypothetically...Anyone stand to benefit fantasy wise??

I am not a Coach, but it would seems obvious to me that the best way to use Rubio/Wiggo/Lavine would be by allowing Rubio to Play the P/R most of the time, with Wiggins and Lavine coming off Screens or Standing in the Corners ready to shoot. That way, the 3 players are used to their strenght (playmaking for Rubio, scoring/Shooting for the other two). 40 games in the season, and Thbis might start to realize it now, wow !
134.2d
Kswizzz
I am amaze to see that Thibs might only now starting to realize that Rubio is a better Player when he has the ball in his hands and he's used as a playmaker. Since the beginning of the season, I cannot understand why Lavine and/or Wiggins Play the most ISO / P/R. First, puting Rubio in a corner doing nothing is the worst you can do to a Player like him. Secondly, Lavine and most importantly Wiggo are not efficient ISO / P/R players. Basically, Thibs is not playing his players to their strenghts, which for me is the sign of a bad coach. Maybe after 46 assists in 3 games and most importantly 3 wins in a row, he might Change his thinking. But again, I think he is a bad Coach, and when Lavine Comes back, everything will be back the same...

I think the Wolves have been so bad in so many ways that trying to isolate one player's strengths/weaknesses is rather difficult. Historically, Rubio is not a bad defender. I also think the stats show that Lavine and Wiggins are pretty much two of the worst starting defenders in the league. (Also, for as much as people rag on Rubio's offense, Wiggins' TS% is almost exactly as terrible.) The team has issues. Either way, for fantasy purposes no Lavine is great for Rubio because it means more Rubio Assists and less Lavine ISOs.
134.3d
gehrenberg
0% (2) agree
The numbers don't quite show that. The wolves are better on both offense and defense this year with Lavine on the court. With Rubio on the bench they score the exact same number of point per possession as with him on the floor. Their defense struggles with Rubio on the court as they allow an offensive rating of 112.4 with Rubio on the floor vs just 108 with him on the bench. The wolves starting unit overall has been awful this year. It has the worst net rating of any starting lineup in the NBA

Rubio in his best season was not top 50 guy in a 5 cat league. Thibs is choosing T Jones in the 4th Q over Rubio recently. He looks lost or disinterested in Thibs system. He should be running the floor throwing lobs to Lavine and Wiggins all game long and all they do is walk it up and run some garbage play that gets a tough one on one shot. I think his value is going to plummet under Thibodeau. Forget the minutes, he will average closer to 8 assists per 36 if he continues to be used like this. So when do the Wolves really start thinking about trading him. He isn't fitting the Thib system. Doesn't look like the player we all know. I had high hopes for him this year too. Oops

Rubio does not fit Thibodeau's offensive system and is not being put in a position to succeed. Thibs is all about Wiggins and is putting the ball in his hands. Rubio's usage and minutes are in jeopardy. Tyus Jones has closed out the last two games. Thibodeau should have just traded Rubio on draft night if he was going to use him like this. Rubio feeds Wiggins and goes to stand in the corner.

I watched a decent amount of the game, and he could have had a couple more ast easily with guys making a couple more jump shots, and he was close to at least 2 more steals on D. However, I'm somewhat worried because their offense just looks awk the last few games. Guys are moving, the ball moves around, but then it feels like after 3-4 passes it just turns into Wiggo, KAT, or sometimes Lavine iso. They aren't generating many easy buckets.

Pretty sure Rubio is gonna be the starter when he returns. Gotta think if MIN is ready to give the job to Dunn then they're going to want to get Rubio minutes to get his stock up for a Winter deal. Lots of teams would be interested in RR. The Spurs probably don't have enough in the warchest to land Rubio, but he'd be amazing in that offense w/ his buddy Gasol.

This trade feels weird because Parker is sputtering a little to start the season, and the Magic have looked bad, but as long as Dunn's value is only temporary, it sounds like you made a reasonable trade that has some upside. If you have a quick look at his injury history they have been injuries that have happened completely due to bad luck. Injuries any player could get if they in the wrong place at the wrong time. He doesn’t miss games here or there with small injuries like some players. He doesn’t have any recurring injury that could flare up at any time. That's what I would classify as flat-out fragile. Over that 5 year span you talked about, he had a period where he played 150+ games in a row, before succumbing to a fluke injury. I really doubt a flat out fragile guy would've done that... He is just an extremely unlucky player in my opinion.
210.2d
webslinger48

The majority opinion on Rubio is that he has been the unfortunate recipient of fluke injuries. Fact: Rubio has only played more than 60 games in two of the last five seasons. Some guys are just brittle. The jury is still out on this particular injury but the track record is not promising. If he ends up missing extended time due to the elbow, I believe that the narrative on Rubio moves on from him bieng unlucky to flat-out fragile. This is more than just a random occurance, in my opinion.

I can't see Thibs, who said his goal is playoffs, moving to a rookie PG who has looked pretty below average so far. If you want to win, rookie PG is the not the way you go about that. There is some risk with Rubio, but I can't see the logic in that article.

He has had two injuries in his career. A torn ACL, which accounts for the missed games in his first and second season and a torn ankle ligament which accounted for the games missed in year 4. He hasn't been injury prone, nor has he been someone who has suffered any wear and tear injuries in his career.

Projecting Rubio to play 78 games given his last five seasons (76-22-82-57-41)) is more than a little optimistic, don't you think? If Thibodeau ups his minutes, as projected, a breakdown would seem as likely as not....

With the bulk of Rubio's value coming from 2 categories, is anyone worried that the development of Kris Dunn may take assist/steal opportunities away from Rubio? If his value dips in those categories he will be tougher than usual to fit into your roster.
