Out for season Left shoulder surgery Open link
The Cavs announced Wednesday that Love underwent surgery to repair his dislocated left shoulder. He'll continue treatment and rehabilitation in Cleveland, with an expected timeline for a recovery of four-to-six months. Love suffered the injury midway through the first quarter of Sunday's win after getting tangled up with Kelly Olynyk while going for a rebound, and immediately ran to the locker room afterwards holding his shoulder. Prior to Wednesday's announcement, he had been considered "highly unlikely" to return to the playoffs with a diagnosis of an acute anterior inferior glenohumeral dislocation with corresponding ligament/labrum tearing and humeral head bone bruising. Tristan Thompson, Shawn Marion, and Kendrick Perkins will see additional run for the remainder of the playoffs with Love sidelined, and we'll update his status over the summer as he recovers.

Injured Dislocated left shoulder Open link
Cavs general manager David Griffin said Tuesday that it's "highly unlikely" that Love will be able to return at any point during the playoffs, and added that surgery is an option. The team announced Monday that Love has been ruled out for the entirety of the Eastern Conference semifinals due to his dislocated left shoulder. Further evaluation and imaging revealed that Love has an acute anterior inferior glenohumeral dislocation with the corresponding ligament/labrum tearing and humeral head bone bruising. He is currently undergoing training room treatments while additional opinions are being obtained and treatment options being explored. An update on Love's status beyond that will be determined over the next several days, though Bleacher Report's Howard Beck reports that his torn labrum will require four-to-six weeks minimum to heal. He suffered the injury midway through the first quarter of Sunday's win after getting tangled up with Kelly Olynyk while going for a rebound, and immediately ran to the locker room afterwards holding his shoulder. We'll continue to update Love's timetable as needed, and it will be Tristan Thompson, Iman Shumpert, and James Jones seeing additional run for at least the next round of the playoffs while he is sidelined.

Injured Dislocated left shoulder Open link
ESPN.com's Brian Windhorst reports that word within the Cavs organization is that Love will likely be out for a minimum of two weeks due to his dislocated left shoulder. Love will travel back to Cleveland with the team later this afternoon and undergo X-rays and an MRI on Monday, with his status to be updated afterwards. There are a lot of factors in play, including the extent of soft tissue and labrum damage, but the average missed time for a dislocated shoulder in the NBA is 27 (regular season) games. Teammate Iman Shumpert missed six weeks earlier in the season after dislocating his shoulder. It seems almost a certainty that Love will have to miss further time beyond Sunday, though he said his shoulder feels better and he is hoping he can play in Game 1 of the second round. He suffered the injury midway through the first quarter of Sunday's win after getting tangled up with Kelly Olynyk while going for a rebound, and immediately ran to the locker room afterwards holding his shoulder. Love won't return to Sunday's game after appearing to dislocate his left shoulder midway through the first quarter. He suffered the injury after getting tangled up with Kelly Olynyk while going for a rebound. Love immediately ran straight to the locker room afterwards holding his shoulder, and there's a good chance that he'll have to miss further time beyond Sunday. Tristan Thompson and James Jones will see additional run at the forward spots the rest of the way in his absence.

Active Lower back Open link
Love was a full participant in practice on Saturday and said he will play on Sunday vs. the Bulls. He was held out on Thursday due to soreness in his lower back as the Cavs didn't want to take any chances given that he has been dealing with back issues off-and-on since first experiencing spasms in late December. Love didn't return to Sunday's win after leaving midway through the fourth quarter with a lower back injury, which he suffered when he took an elbow to the back while reaching for a pass on a defensive play. His return will take back minutes from Tristan Thompson, James Jones, and Shawn Marion in the frontcourt.

Love has been ruled out for Thursday's game vs. the Heat due to soreness in his lower back. He was a partial participant in morning shootaround but the Cavs are not taking any chances given that he has been dealing with back issues off-and-on since first experiencing spasms in late December. "This morning when he got up he was still stiff and not 100 percent," said coach David Blatt. "We decided to hold him out and be cautious." Blatt added that it's not simply precautionary and that he's definitely feeling "sub-par." Love didn't return to Sunday's win after leaving midway through the fourth quarter with a lower back injury, which he suffered when he took an elbow to the back while reaching for a pass on a defensive play. Love was a partial participant in morning shootaround and remains a game-time decision for Thursday's contest vs. the Heat. He didn't return to Sunday's win after leaving midway through the fourth quarter with a lower back injury, which he suffered when he took an elbow to the back while reaching for a pass on a defensive play. Love said afterwards that the injury is not serious and he expected to play on Thursday, which is good news given that he has been dealing with back issues off-and-on since first experiencing spasms in late December. He added that the three days of rest heading into Thursday will do him some good, and he was also a partial participant in practice on Wednesday. Love's availability will affect minutes in the frontcourt for Tristan Thompson and Timofey Mozgov.

Out Lower back Open link
Love won't return to Sunday's game after leaving midway through the fourth quarter with a lower back injury. He appeared to tweak his back when he reached awkwardly for a pass on a defensive play, then immediately asked out of the game and left for the locker room. There has to be a bit of concern here, given that Love has been dealing with issues with his back off-and-on since first experiencing back spasms in late December. He was rested for two games in mid-March, although he said at the time that it had nothing to do with his back. Tristan Thompson will see additional run at power forward the rest of the way in Love's absence on Sunday.
3/18/2015 10:07 AM
Active Rest Open link
Love participated in shootaround and will return to the lineup on Wednesday vs. the Nets. He said he felt the two games he sat out to rest have helped, though he clarified that his absence had nothing to do with his back. Love added that coach David Blatt came to him with the plan to rest a game or two and he agreed. His return will push Tristan Thompson back to a more limited reserve role and cut into the minutes of Kendrick Perkins as well.
3/16/2015 5:44 PM
Out Rest Open link
Love has been ruled out for a second straight game on Monday vs. the Heat for the purposes of rest. Although coach David Blatt said the rest is not linked to a particular injury, Love has admitted to still dealing with some stiffness in his back, which he first started experiencing in late December. "It's something I want to get right before we get to the playoffs, because that's what's most important at this point," he said. Blatt added that he expects Love to be back in the lineup on Wednesday, and his sitting out the back-to-back will give him five days off between games. Tristan Thompson and Kendrick Perkins will see the additional run in the frontcourt with Love out again on Monday.
3/15/2015 3:34 PM
Out Rest Open link
Love has been ruled out for Sunday's game vs. the Magic for the purposes of rest. The timing of this makes sense given the Cavs are headed in as big favorites and are in the first leg of a back-to-back. Tristan Thompson will likely get the start at power forward in his place, with Shawn Marion (hip, active) and James Jones to see additional run off the bench as well.
3/3/2015 5:53 PM
Active Illness Open link
Love will play on Tuesday vs. the Celtics despite missing morning shootaround due to illness. He still appears to be a bit under the weather and could be a bit limited, but will give it a go regardless.

Love will be a game-time decision for Tuesday's contest vs. the Celtics after missing morning shootaround. We'll continue to keep an eye on his status and provide updates as needed, and it would be Tristan Thompson, Timofey Mozgov, and Kendrick Perkins seeing additional run in the frontcourt if he has to miss any time.

Probable Illness Open link
Love missed morning shootaround due to illness, but is considered probable for Tuesday's game vs. the Celtics. We'll continue to keep an eye on his status and provide updates as needed, but it doesn't look like this will end up costing him any time. Tristan Thompson, Timofey Mozgov, and Kendrick Perkins would see additional run in the frontcourt in the off chance that Love has to sit out.

Active Right corneal abrasion Open link
Love will return to the lineup on Friday vs. the Wizards as he said his right eye is fine and that the corneal abrasion cleared up by the weekend. He sat out last Thursday due to the injury, which he suffered early in the third quarter of last Wednesday's win after taking an inadvertent shot to the face from Mario Chalmers. Love's return will push Tristan Thompson back to the bench and take back minutes from Shawn Marion as well.

Love has been ruled out for Thursday's game vs. the Bulls due to a right corneal abrasion that he suffered early in the third quarter of Wednesday's win after taking an inadvertent shot to the face from Mario Chalmers. He said that when he stepped outside on Thursday the brightness of the sun caused him shooting pain in his eye, and he tried to get it right with numbing eye drops but to no avail. Tristan Thompson will start at power forward in Love's place, with Shawn Marion seeing additional run off the bench as well.

Probable Right corneal abrasion Open link
ESPN.com's Ramona Shelbourne reports that Love will play on Thursday vs. the Bulls, though he's still being evaluated and is expected to be a game-time decision. He suffered a right corneal abrasion early in the third quarter of Wednesday's win after taking an inadvertent shot to the face from Mario Chalmers. Love himself didn't seem too concerned afterwards. "It was blurry for about 20-30 minutes but I was able to regain my vision," he said. "I feel fine." Tristan Thompson and Shawn Marion would see additional run at power forward if Love were to be held out on Thursday.

Love did not return to Wednesday's game due to a right corneal abrasion, an injury he suffered early in the third quarter when he took an inadvertent shot to the face from Mario Chalmers. He'll travel with the team to Chicago and be re-evaluated on Thursday, at which time his status for the game vs. the Bulls will be established. Love himself didn't seem too concerned after the game. "It was blurry for about 20-30 minutes but I was able to regain my vision," said Love. "I feel fine." Active Back spasms Open link
Love will start on Monday vs. the Bulls, as expected, after sitting out Friday due to back spasms. He said he doesn't know what caused it, but added that it's paralyzing when it happens. Love labored through much of Thursday's win and was receiving treatment for his back on the bench almost every time he wasn't in the game, although he somehow managed to play 37 minutes. His return will take back minutes at power forward from Tristan Thompson and Shawn Marion.

Active Back spasms Open link
Love will play Friday vs. the Hornets after sitting out on Wednesday due to back spasms. "Yeah, I'm back feeling OK," he said at morning shootaround. "I'm going to give it a go tonight." Love first experienced the spasms midway through Tuesday's game, when his back "locked up" and forced him to the bench. His return will take back minutes from Brendan Haywood and Lou Amundson, and he'll be asked to play a larger role in the Cavs' offense with LeBron James (knee, back) sidelined.

Out Back spasms Open link
Love has officially been ruled out for Wednesday's game vs. the Bucks, as expected. He is still being bothered by back spasms, which caused him to leave Tuesday's loss midway through the third quarter. The Cavs' frontcourt will be extremely thin on Wednesday with LeBron James (knee) and Shawn Marion (ankle) already ruled out, so expect plenty of Tristan Thompson and extended run for Lou Amundson and Brendan Haywood as well.

Doubtful Back spasms Open link
Love is considered "highly questionable" for Wednesday's game vs. the Bucks as he is still being bothered by his back spasms. It appears unlikely that he'll play after leaving Tuesday's loss midway through the third quarter with the injury. The Cavs' frontcourt will be extremely thin on Wednesday should Love not be able to go, with LeBron James (knee) and Shawn Marion (ankle) already ruled out.

Questionable Back spasms Open link
Love left Tuesday's loss midway through the third quarter with back spasms and did not return, although he's hoping to be available for Wednesday's game vs. the Bucks. "My back didn't feel too great before the game, but it's just one of those things where it locked up on me," said Love. "I had one game earlier this year where it was a spasm but played through it and came back and played the next day, so I'm hoping it's the same thing." The Cavs' frontcourt could be very thin on Wednesday, depending on the availability of Love, LeBron James (knee), and Shawn Marion (ankle).
12/23/2014 10:01 PM
Active Right hand Open link
Love left Tuesday's game and headed to the locker room after he took an inadvertent elbow to the right hand from Gorgui Dieng while going up for a shot attempt. He said afterwards that he was fine, but just had some initial concern because he also had jammed his right thumb during Friday's win vs. the Nets. X-rays on his hand were negative, which ruled out anything serious, and Love called it a "mild, little thing." He's expected to be fine for Thursday's contest vs. the Heat.
12/17/2014 4:20 PM
Active Illness Open link
Love will play on Wednesday vs. the Hawks after sitting out shootaround earlier due to flu-like symptoms. He doesn't appear to have any sort of restrictions coming in, and looks to be good to go.

Questionable Illness Open link
Love sat out shootaround and is considered a game-time decision for Wednesday's contest vs. the Hawks as he is experiencing flu-like symptoms. The Cavs would be stretched very thin in the frontcourt should Love have to miss any time, with Tristan Thompson, LeBron James, Shawn Marion, and possibly Louis Amundson all seeing some time at power forward. We'll continue to update Love's status once we hear more.
10/15/2014 7:17 PM
Probable Sore neck Open link
Love did not start the second half of Wednesday's exhibition, staying in the locker room instead to get treatment on his sore neck. The Cavs say the injury is not considered serious and that he'll be fine, which is good news. Love got knocked to the floor twice during the second quarter and asked to be subbed out as he was seen favoring his neck. He tweaked his neck earlier in the game after the first of the two knocks, and was seen with a warm wrap on the back of it while on the bench. This appears to be minor and shouldn't affect his status for the season opener in any way.
