Aminu's playing time should not be affected when Turner returns. Harkless will probably lose some minutes. Categories might affect your choice too, they do different things for percentages in particular.

I've been a big Harkless fan all year, realistically he has top 50 upside if not better when his low volume stats are positive (FT% and TO), overall he has a clear path to minutes with POR injuries. Otto Porter lite.

Only 23 mins tonight. He seemed to be playing pretty good defense while he was out there too. I wonder if there's some kind of unofficial minutes restriction for him so he doesn't re-injure his calf.

I have been a user for multiple years and I have a lot of issues with the projections this year, but I'm not sure Harkless is a good example of it. Harkless was actually pretty under-projected on draft night (11th round, 9-cat, ended up being 7th round value through December.) However, Portland is an unstable team and I think any projections about their second-tier players should be taken with a grain of salt.

Long time user here. (Since '11 or '12?) I won all my important, money leagues, by using the tools provided here along with my personal judgment. The only time that this site failed me was not to predict Brandon Jennings's ruptured achilles. I mean, how could you guys not tell me that ahead of time before I drafted him in October based on your projections? HUH? And again this year with Gay. You guys really need to add an indicator "weak achilles" to your projections. XD

@trakis - by all means, put in a custom projection for yourself if you disagree with what's out there. Personally, I'd prefer the site not add more elements to the projections that will only cause people to find more reasons to complain about why they're wrong. I'm a long time user and this is an age old complaint. When it comes down to it, the projections are one of the least useful "tools" that are offered here (or anywhere else for that matter). it's all educated guessing. If that's what anyone comes here for, they're really missing out on a wealth of other tools that will actually help you become a better owner/manager at the end of the day.
61.2d
dl22
FWIW, the "coaching decision" was to limit his minutes because he tried to play through the calf strain. Once he's healthy, he plays and produces. He's easily the second best defender on the team after Aminu (some would argue he's ahead of Aminu).

The platform and community are excellent in my opinion! But the projections fluctuate way too much! An average value means nothing without its st. deviation and this is something BBM should implement! For example if Harkless is projected no.55 , he should at least be denoted as a risky projection because of coaching decisions (he is a role player after all). So yeah, i like the tools but some things are off

A good carpenter never blames his tools. BBM is awesome and has helped me win and/or get to the championship round in multiple leagues for multiple years. Nevertheless, BBM isn't a step-by-step cheat code, it's a tool that is very helpful. Personal judgment and analysis is still required. For what it's worth, I enjoy Josh's work very much.

There are 3 things in Fantasy Basketball you cannot predict: Injuries, coaching decisions, and trades. It would appear Harkless has been subjected to at least two of the three this year, making it very hard to predict his value. But the same goes for a range of players every season. BBM does its best to provide accurate predictions based on the available information, and after 11 years of playing this game, I think they do a damn good job. The other thing they provide is a platform for people to share their views and ideas, so we can have honest conversations like this and use the experience to improve the service going forward.

Your bad for posting it here but you did anyway. This site is a tool, it's not a site to hold your hand through your fantasy experience. This is my first and last season I'm buying a subscription to a site as it all went wrong with me. Maybe I relied too much on it but I didn't find it worthwhile. And the projected standings has proved not to be working for ESPN, even though it is not mentioned anywhere. Anyway, let's not ruin this player's topic. My bad for posting it here.

Maybe next season along with projections, each player is allocated a variability index? that way you can rate a guy like Harkless as 90, but give him a rather high variability index meaning he could easily slip to 125 or jump to 55. Contrary, a guy with consistent minutes, a low ceiling and a high floor.....like Avery Bradley would have a rather low variability index.

@magicmisiu @theo156 isn't that the nature of fantasy basketball ? Indeed, in Mo Harkless case, i can totally understand that based on the way he was playing his projections were high. However, the coach decided to shake up his rotations, and now it seems like he might be stuck to 20 mins per game, especially if the Blazers win a few games in a row. How could BM could anticipate it ? There are a lot of players who go from being strong hold to droppable very quickly and vice-versa. Again, that is the nature of fantasy basketball. Shit change, you better adapt to it quickly

@theo, it's not just that. The advice/daily reports on the site tell us a guy isn't a hold in 12 teamers, next day he's in the waiver wire report as a hot pickup even in 10 teamers, few days later he's no longer a hold even in 14 teamers. It's just too inconsistent for me. I noticed this isn't the case for just Harkless, but other players like Mirotic, T. Jones, TJ Warren, and Gary Harris.

ive held him for a while just based on his propsensity for blks and stls. he is still top 80 player because of that. if he loses mintues though i think its time to move on. im not ready to cut yet but if he keeps going with only a handful of minutes it might be time to move on.

The only thing I can think of is that a.) he's not completely healthy, or b.) POR is getting crushed by backup units and they're trying to bolster their bench defense w/ Aminu + Harkless.
