TJ McConnell had some value once he became a starter the last 2+ months... James Johnson, Patrick Beverley, and TJ would be my top 3 picks for waiver wire of the year.

Markieff Morris should be the waiver pickup of the year. Although I did pick up Covington off waivers as well due to impatient owners, I don't think he hit waivers in most leagues.

Covington had an ADP just at or around the top 100. He is not a candidate for this informal award. James Johnson is the answer. Whether AVG or Total value, he is the only top 80 player not drafted in the top 150 in standard leagues.

Easily the WW player of the year. T. Booker crashed and burned hard. TJ Warren was terrible for 2/3 of the season, and Nurkic was buried in Denver for too long.

TJ just wasn't feeding him the ball and Sergio was hoisting up some terrible shots instead of finding RoCo on the wing. He usually gets much better looks but because he wasn't even touching the ball in some of the offensive sets, I think he was taking bad percentage shots when he actually had the ball in his hands. Close to a DD and 3 steals in a game where Okafor and Saric got looks because of GS weak frontcourt. I'll take it.

Watched my first 76ers game last night, makes me wonder what Covington could do FG% wise if he got 30 minutes and better looks. Some of the threes he takes are with a hand in his face.

Same as asma3nur - I've got Ariza (ew - yucky lately) with 3 games or Gary Harris with 3 games to replace him. Covington was my clutch 3s and steals guy but I think I can get my matchup either way. Would you guys risk it (upvote) or sub in Harris/Ariza (downvote)?

#50952 -- Covington's steal numbers from the last two weeks will regress, but in general, he should continue to be the same player that he's been all season. If the Sixers get healthy, Covington may play a few less minutes per game down the stretch.

If the Sixers' roster stays relatively the same. Even if they bounce Nerlens and Okafor to other teams. If Covington is going to play as big of a role as he has so far this season, he'll likely end up having to play some minutes at SG, which is something I think they'll try. I'm imagining a crazy lineup with Simmons, Covington, Saric, Ilyasova, and Embiid (which seems insane but might happen). More likely would be something like McConnell/Sergio/Stauskas, Covington, Saric, Simmons, and Embiid. Ilyasova can slot in there with Simmons starting at SF and Saric coming off the bench. But to keep both Saric and Covington playing big roles when Simmons is back, Covington may have to play some minutes at SG.

I dropped him & it felt great. I'd much rather keep the back end of my roster flexible this early in the season. He might turn it around but the Sixers have more capable scorers this year, no guarantees he gets back to where he was last year. Steals are great but high variation stats are hard to bank on.

Still managed to average 27.6 minutes thus far and that's with his horrendous shooting. His steals and blocks are still there, so I'm not worried. FGA seems like it's going to be down this year, so if you're looking solely for volume threes, he might not be your guy. Though, this same point would suggest that if his FG% returns to career avg., his FG% impact will be less bad than expected...which is good for owners who primarily care about his steals.
145.5d
bonezi89
75% (4) agree
Would say he's the opposite of relying on his shot (if we are talking about fantasy), that's why he's able to put up such good value despite shooting <40%. His shooting has been horrendous but that's just how he is, he's still a stocks machine and the rebounds are good. Basically his floor, his ceiling I guess is what relies on his shot falling.
145.5d
righaya
0% (1) agree
So the dude hasn't scored in two games despite 50 minutes... time to panic? He seems like one of those guys completely reliant on his shot. Shame because he's so much better than a guy like Dion Waiters. Theoretically.
152.5d
#42520
Why is Covington's fg% expected to go down despite a minimal usage bump? Wouldn't it stand to reason that he'll get better shot attempts with Embiid, Bayless, and Saric on the floor? And Simmons down the line of course.
