Josh I think your weights with minus 1 like last year is better than DURANT H2H for daily rankings.I mean for ranking just one game. I think DURANT is better at long term(full season) or at least weekly value.What do you think about this?
becuase that is how 9 cat ranks, the type that are displayed on yahoo for example, and espn value giannis. An old type system which doesn't incorporate the nuances on h2h play and punting. It's why I invented DURANT to try and make the rankings make more sense. Take a look at where Giannis finished in 9 cat 'ranking' last season? You'll see him outside the top 50.

Nevermind. I figured it out. If anyone else encounters this, once you change the setting to Durant H2H, you then have to sort the rankings by clicking the H2H column.

I'm confused. I clicked for Durant H2H to sort for a 9 category league. This is supposed to eliminate TO's and their next worst category if I'm reading correctly. If that's the case, how is Giannis 39th? If you remove FT%, he's arguably the 3rd best player in the format. Did I read something wrong or maybe edit things incorrectly? Is there a box I need to uncheck when I edit and add Durant H2H?

Someone can correct me if i’m wrong. On the Projections 25/26 page there’s a column with ‘1W+-‘ which shows the change in their projected value over the last week. If you go in the specific players profile it’s titled ‘ Josh - 7 days ago’ showing Josh’s projection from 7 days ago which you can compare to the current projection.

Keep in mind that DURANT H2H is a per-game value so you will have to adjust for players you expect to miss games. Also, use an ADP to get an idea of when you can draft players.

If you fill out Settings/Custom Auction Prices, it will use those prices and adjust the remaining budgets. Make sure Use Custom Auction is selected on the page also,
how should you factor in keepers into proposed values? e.g. if the difference between BBM values and what players were kept at is $x in total, is there a way to distribute those $x over the remaining players? Is the easiest way to increase the number of $1 players or will the proposed draft values factor this in once draft starts?

I am in a H2H league. Your suggestion is that I draft using Draft H2H and "Total Gaes Value". This still ranks Giannis in the 4th round. Is there a way to refine the projection list to make it more in line with draft order? The answer may be, "You need to use your brain to some degree" - but what if I just want to use the list order.

Just out of curiosity, are the min/max projections derived by applying a percentage variation to the projected stats, or are they calculated independently? I saw Ken mention that the min/max values are based on minutes type and historical consistency, but I’m wondering whether they also indicate the likelihood of a player actually reaching those levels. In other words, do the min/max projections assume something like a Gaussian distribution around the mean, or are they based on a skewed distribution?

Hi admins, can you please help me explain how best to use BBM to guide during a live draft (e.g. auction draft)? My understanding is that you have to continually refresh / "import" the league to update the available players / updated rosters. But what would be the best setting to use as reference, e.g. DURANT H2H$ to help guide value / needs in real time (as you are drafting). And am I understanding correctly that if I draft a Wemby for $80, DURANT H2H$ will automatically adjust in real time (with said refresh/import) the remaining player values based on remaining statistical scarcity / values?

How is Kawhi Leonard in your projections in the first round? I do not understand this.
Trae young in “ Durant” is in the 60s Dyson is also always so high for a steal specialist. I love him but not so early. I could e had him or reaves as a keeper in the 7 th round and it was reaves hands down but that isn’t always in these projections so you can’t follow these rankings blindly
We provide projections for the players and then apply the user's custom settings to get a projected value. We don't have fixed lists of players since each group of settings would require a separate list. Those other sites, along with Josh's podcast, are creating their own subjective list based on a fixed group of settings (Yahoo 9-cat, Yahoo points, etc.)
I am confused. So does the site not just provide rankings of the players in different formats with Josh creating the rankings?
So basically an option at the top of the page to choose Cat or Pts? When you choose one or the other the players are then just listed from 1 to 150.
I would like to have this list as well as some other lists that I have, Fantasy Pros, Hashtag, on one of my monitors during my draft.
I will ultimately draft 20 teams and really do not want to learn a new UI to manage my teams.

I have setup your two leagues, and you may need to log out and back in to see the changes. Then use Monster/Draft Monster to see a list of players sorted in per-game value order. I have also added a JoshT column which gives a total games value to see which players are likely to miss games. When drafting, look for the highest Value players, and use the ADP to make sure you're not drafting anyone too early. How does this look?

Is everyone doing this 3RR? I think I might be in the minority here but I personally feel like in H2H leagues it’s not necessary with how punts develop around R3.
What I don’t see being discussed in this context too is that you’re really either locking yourself into doing this every year going forward, or, you’re going to be looked at as a biased commissioner, making league decisions seemingly on a whim, especially if you’re going to benefit from this.
The only fair way to do this is to have a league vote on it before draft order is set. Just food for thought esp for $ leagues. Even in my league where everyone is close friends this would go over like a lead balloon lol. I actually did an informal poll of about 80% of my 14T league I run too prior to order randomization and only 1 person was for it.

Hi Ken. If my league was h2h 9 cat with double doubles instead of turnovers. Can I still sort players by DURANT H2H? Does the uncommon category throw anything off? Would it be good to select to punt the DD cat to essentially make it an 8 cat league. I’m just hoping my settings are still compatible with the formula to give me accurate ranks.
We do not support TD with DURANT. It's not a perfect solution, but you could turn this off to see DURANT value.

Depends where you draft and the stat profile of your first few picks. You could do well with a balanced build if you get Jokic or Shai. There’s almost always a cat to punt though. I disregard TOs because I’m usually streaming and getting more games in than opponents. I’ve been in a competitive league and won with balanced twice in the last 4 years. However, the other two winners leant into punt FG%/TOs and before that punt Assists/3s which were both effective. Especially when you can pick up 3s off the wire easily when against a non elite 3s team. Take a look at DURANT and draft tracker in my opinion and figure out 1 cat to punt after your first few picks.
newer fantasy hoops player here. is punting vs balanced across every category ideal empirically? Matt’s manifesto is the only thing I’ve come across that actually promotes trying to draft balanced. Are both approaches relatively equal in success or is one better than the other.
Here's the formula used:
A = ( fg% - avg(fg%) ) * fga/g
player val = ( A - avg(A) ) / stdev(A)
Calculate the A for each player, and the calculate the final Value.

Per game compares per-game stats such as p/g while total games value use total points so the more games projected, the high the player value.

Obviously pick 1-4 you get an almost guaranteed star, but are there any other draft slots in H2H cat leagues that anyone prefers. We get to choose our slot this year and I’m 9th/12 to be asked where I want to pick.
You can set this under Settings/Team Players and Make My Team.
The refreshing from Yahoo and FanTrax always take a few seconds since we're waiting on their API to return results. Other pages however should be pretty responsive except maybe the profile pages which do a lot of processing.
Appreciate boosting the servers. For reference, I'm consistently experiencing significant performance delays across multiple page, each one taking several seconds to load. This doesn’t seem to be an isolated issue on my end, as I’ve tested it across different unique browser instances and on separate networks and devices with the same results. A bit concerned, since the draft tracker takes seconds to load and refresh from yahoo and it may cause the draft tracker to have stale data during draft time.

You should do 3RR because the value of the first four or five picks (four in roto, five in H2H) is so disproportionate to the rest of the player pool. I wouldn't do a roto draft that didn't have 3RR.

It's only used to enable some tools and doesn't affect the projections. BAZEMORE is the value for Dynasty.

Hi Ken. Doing mocks for ESPN salary. When a player is drafted and I update it gives a weird number eg -$285 as well as the original projected price for each player. Can we just have the updated price that the player is now worth according to the real draft numbers? I don't want to be doing math mid-draft! TIA :)

@jay24bay, I figure it will most likely help tick up the FG% of primary ball handlers by a tiny fraction (e.g., Steph, Ant Man) and maybe add a few more long 3PM that otherwise wouldn't have been attempted, but so infrequently as to not really impact projections. I supposed in a rare case it could swing a H2H matchup.
I guess that the NBA rule change for not counting (missed) heaves in fg% will carry over to fantasy since it's an official change? I also guess that won't impact anyone except maybe someone like Payton Pritchard a tiny bit? Anything to see here? I could see it swinging some H2H matchups though.
What kinds of evaluation did you use on how DURANT performed last year and what did you find? I've created custom variance adjustments in the past and while the rankings they produce intuitively make more sense, they haven't actually back tested any better than standard z-scores on the results within my league

Yea, thank you! It would be nice to combine both to see the total value of the player, I guess. For example, Zions a top per game guy, but obviously not as great totals wise. I'd want to see where he'd be ranked if both are taken into consideration.

For manual draft tracking, the Draft Tracker does support that, but we're also planning on adding a tool that only works with manual entry which should be ready this month. If you have a slow draft, you can manage rosters under Settings/Team Players and Settings/Custom Auction Prices, then import those into the draft tracker.
