Thanks to BBM and the BBM Friends, I have just won both my competitive leagues. Jokic was a huge part in my run. Thanks for keeping all the players up to date daily. I've never made it past the first round of the playoffs til this year when I finally signed up with BBM. I am so grateful/thankful that I joined. It did not disappoint me when I need BBM the most and will be back for sure next season. I can't wait til next season. Til then my BBM Friends :)

Yes. I never once doubted his ability, I doubted what Malone was going to do with he and Nurkic and that's why he was risky. I stated it at least 20 times in offseason that if he got 32 minutes he'd be a top 15 player, but we just didn't know what Malone was going to do.

Of course he will. Only 21 and crazy talented. Just seems most are quick to blame Malone every single time he has a bad game or doesn't get big minutes. He doesn't deserve them tonight...plain and simple..and he really didn't last night either.

He was still +4 and crappy Plumlee was -22 or something in similar minutes. It's so stupid, who cares what his defense is like if the team is still winning and much better with him on the court. That's all that really matters. His real plus minus is like 14th in the entire NBA. Clearly he is a super positive player. People are too hung up on this when the results say otherwise and Malone is a dumbshit

He got Malone'd. Malone blasted him for his defense after the game. Like anybody on the entire roster is a good defender (minus Harris). Malone needs to realize that their defense isn't going to win them games. Their offense is going to win them games.

Let's also not forget that MIN is one of the few teams that essentially trots out 2 centers in Towns and Dieng. Malone was probably just matching the size that Dieng brings to the PF spot. I'm not too worried about it happening again once everyone is healthy.

Donnie99
@johnnyuhimself, imo Faried who started with Jokic at some parts is more of a center rather than a "pf" because of the lack of range. Plumlee is in the same mold with Faried but with better vision. So, I don't think it will mess Jokic in any sense.

Jokic for Wall is whatever, but it's going to boil down to whether you want a top PG instead of a PF/C. Plumlee is not going to affect Jokic's touches and I'd be surprised if they share the court for a non-trivial amount. If you watch the Denver's bench play, you realize that they sorely needed a C that can help facilitate on offense. (Nurkic was a TO/Blackhole and watching Barton run half-court sets...lol) There hasn't been a noticeable difference in USG with Galo out, check the logs (galo's USG has been down this season in general).

d_ironside -- I haven't seen anything to suggest he'll be on a minutes restriction Saturday, but even if he is, Malone said Jokic was only going to play 25-28 minutes on Friday, and he played 32 mins. Malone does that all the time, saying someone will be on a minutes restriction, and then they play a lot more minutes. Jokic played 38 mins in DEN's last game against SAS two weeks ago, so you'd think he's used a lot again Saturday. Jokic was asked what he thought his minutes limit should have been last night and he said, "49."

@brendans that's the only thing that's even making me think about this--top heavy. and yes, a deal down the road is warranted. I'm not quite as high on Jok in terms of him maintaining his current stats as team scouts will find a way to slow him down. Counting stats might not be adversely affected but maybe efficiency and TOs will affect his value. Thanks for the input!

Really need to be patient for the MRI results. Negative side of the ledger is that he is a big man and that the team is concerned enough to order the MRI. Your per36 is 15 FGA but it's been 18 for the last month, granted there have been absences from Mudiay and Harris during this time but I don't believe they're directly correlated as the FGA were even higher than the average in those games. That's just one example and still only 2 fouls. He was in no danger of fouling out and sitting your best player huge stretches accomplishes what. If he fouls out he fouls out keeping him off the court is doing the same thing. There are plenty more examples regardless. You look at a Gianis, AD, or KAT etc game log and you don't see 19 minute games, you hardly see under 30 minute ones and they are getting early fouls and blowouts too. You see many 35 and 40+ minute games too and he's been that kind of talent. What's wrong with wanting to see him played like the 21 year old star he has been or giving him the leash to relax on D and not to foul like other superstars if they get an early one. Stars play with them all the time.
212.8d
gehrenberg
The clippers game he picked up 2 fouls three minutes into the game and then they were up by almost 40 in the second half with a game the next night. It would have been stupid to run him out there in garbage time just to give him more minutes

He's been dicked around and misused most of this year and he's STILL a top 10 per minute guy. It's not just fantasy it's all metrics. You look at these other superstars and they aren't playing 25 minutes a game or playing 21 minutes even in blowouts. They just aren't and most of them aren't 21 years old on as crappy of teams that need super talent producing out there either.

He has been playing 30+ minutes, has highest usage on the team, and they are running the offense through him (which is 2nd best in NBA since he's been starting). Last night was a blowout and tonight (4th game in 5 nights) Arthur had a crazy incredible defensive stretch against KAT so Malone rightly stuck with him. If you're watching their games I legit don't know what you're complaining about re Jokic. Now if you want to talk riding Jameer....
213.1d

They wouldn't have him out there if he wasn't healthy enough to play and he's 21 years old. The guy really has been one of the best players in the NBA the last month plus. Just wish they would treat him like that. When's the last time a team trying to make a playoff push played a super star less than 30 mins multiple times when he has that kind of form.

More like 27 or 28 minutes. Just like tonight in a highly competitive game he plays 27 minutes. He wasn't in foul trouble either. He had 3 fouls at the 4 minute mark and had only played 23 minutes when I wrote that. He should be playing 35 minutes a game.

He has the 58th best Defensive RPM in the NBA despite being put in a terrible position the first month, and he was 10th last year. Very underrated Defender. Oh yeah and Mike Malone is an ass clown. Seriously he's still isn't playing the guy like he should.

Even if you take a conservative approach to projecting his likely numbers for the rest of the season, and factor in some regression as teams focus on shutting him down as a priority, he still feels like a 20/10 guy minimum. Today the commentary was that the clippers had him at the top of their scouting report, he was matched up against the best defender in the league, and he still torched them for 19/10 in 21 mins in a blowout.

Pretty simple logic re: Lopez to be honest. He's had foot issues which are significantly impacted by high weight loads over sustained periods of time. That's all to say that 27-28 minutes projected is v agreeable, assuming that Jokic can return his fouls p/36 to last year, and if he manages to get it down to 3.8 or so, then we might see him average 29-30, imo
239.5d
drkinbote
Players who average at or over 4 fouls per 36 don't seem to average anything more than 30 minutes or so. I've only found Myles Turner to be a similar comparison: he averages 3.9 p/36—which is less than Jokic's 4.8 this year—and Myles has been around 29-30 minutes. Last season, they basically averaged the same fouls p/36 year (4.2-4.3), but keep in mind Myles Turner has much more athleticism to work with.

They are quite bad on the defensive end no matter what you do to the lineups, which is why it bothers many people that Malone doesn't concede their deficiencies on that end and just go small to maximize their offense, i.e., put Gallo/Chandler/Jokic out there more.

Thanks for the link man. Being better then Nurkic isn't saying much...lol. His defense is quite bad. He makes some bonehead plays, seems to be quite immature, and gets lost a lot. I was just trying to provide some perspective from a real basketball standpoint. It seems some just see the fantasy stats and wonder why guys don't play more. I like Jokic and would like to see him play more...but we can't just keep putting ALL the blame on Malone. Denver has quite a few bad defenders which is reflected by being 23rd in efficiency and 26th in points given up.

He's defensive numbers aren't good this year, but I think at least some of that can be attributed to him playing power forward to start the year. He's clearly much more comfortable as a center

He had the best DRTG on the team last year. He looks slow but he's super smart and has great anticipation. Good breakdown comparing with Nurkic: http://tinyurl.com/zcu43pf

Malone does some weird stuff with his rotations, I do admit. But, Jokic has some real issues on defense. He's clearly very skilled offensively, but I don't think he gets many more minutes until he improves on the defensive end.

Same here. Problem is, if they really want to trade pieces (and I question if management really does) those players need to play and be showcased.

Takes two teams to make a trade though. They've tried to trade Faried for like three years now but hard to find a taker for a 4 who cant shoot or defend and is a diva in the locker room.

A team with a lot of average and above average players. No alpha dog. Too much depth at almost all positions. As much as coach is to blame, more so with management. Many opportunities to consolidate the roster in the past...wait wait wait...and now team has this.
